this weekend, while driving to my "C++ for Windows" course, i thought up something possibly quite neat...

what if one were to devise a module which enabled you to attach advanced features to ANY vessel?

this is how it'd work:

you load up whatever scenario with your favourite ship...

too bad, that ship has no VC nor is it UMMU/UCGO compatible....

not to worry - hit ctrl+f4 and select "Rig My Rocket"!

a config dialog will prompt you to select one of a number of different styles of VC, so you can choose which one matches best your ship...

you can also configure the parameters for UMMU life support, crew and all... all optional, of course, you don't need one thing to have the other (you could attach just UMMU, with no VC, or vice-versa)

then just hit the big button labeled "Rig my Rocket!" - the module will create a "dummy vessel" and attach it into the current focus - this dummy vessel has no external mesh but it is now your VC! - it then taps into the target vessel so you can control it as if it was all the same

this would add tons to immersion, i think... :hmm:

i imagine some possible styles of VC would be things like a "nasa-like control room" - with mfds on your console + "nose camera" on the big screen or a "windowless cockpit" - featuring a triple-monitor setup for viewing outside (actually just holes in the 3d mesh, but styled to look like screens)... or "Star-Trek-like command bridge" and other "one size fits all" configurations....

perhaps a little SDK for creating your OWN type of pit

then, of course, any of these cockpits would feature 4 MFDs as well as UMMU/UCGO control panels and some other instruments for gauging fuel levels, and other stuff.... all modelled in accordance with the style of the chosen VC

so while the simulation features are the same, they are presented in different manners, so that it matches the concept of the vessel you're rigging - and provide all sorts of cool features to basically ANYTHING you could fly

i reckon the "mission control room" style is prefect for unmanned vessels and probes

what about that?

Global synchronisity of ideas is no joke, i'm afraid.

If it would be able to add a VC to DGIV, it would be worth the effort.

wait, uh... i have no idea what you mean by that :idk::lol:

...as for adding a VC for the DGIV, it would be less than trivial to do so (properly)... while attaching a dummy vessel WOULD work in general, i reckon the DGIV has so many custom features that it would require a lot of very specific code to get it right - yet, well worth it IMO.... but as an entire project apart

but this idea is for a "general-purpose" vessel rigging apparatus.... so the DGIV pit would be kind of a stretch....
i mean, unless you don't mind having a vc that doesn't really exploit all of it's custom features... in that case, it would work like for any other vessel

cheerz!

Well, the XR-2 is pretty much the epitome of that, and yet it still seems fairly popular.

Understated understatement is understated.

true

so i guess that would make my G42 quite the exact opposite, no? - since it has ONLY DVC :hmm:
