Dear Orbinauts,

I let you know that I will publish a further intermediate AMSO version 1.18, before the already announced "crossing version" 2.00. This intermediate version will feature the new Lunar Rover Vehicle with the full realistic deployement animation (probably the most complex multiple chained animations made till today for Orbiter). They won't be other improvements for this intermediate version.

Please look this video here: http://www.acsoft.ch/tmp/AMSO6.wmv

On this video you can see different parts of the LRV deployed automatically, after the vehicle is unfolded on the Lunar surface. Of course, in the reality, this was done manually by the astronauts, like also, to detach it from the LM and to turn it on the ground. Will follow this sequence, the equipment of the LRV (forward electronic pack, TV camera, both high & low gain antenna, etc...). This will also be accomplished automatically, but still step by step, so you can better figure out the work Astronauts had to do, to fully deploy and equip this vehicle.

On this picture, you can see the quality of this totally new unfoldable LRV mesh. Look in particular the wheels. As usually, Luis has made a brilliant work !!! It will be the same quality for all the rest of LRV equipments. But making from scratch such a mesh take time, a lot of time !!! And unfortunately, Luis have less time than in the past, to dedicate to AMSO.

This version 1.18 will be for the actual version of Orbiter. Now, speaking of version 2.00, depending of the evolution of the development of the future version of Orbiter, AMSO 2.00 will be probably compiled for this new version, assuming Martin can resolve the actual problems of backward compatibility with actual Orbiter version.

I have also already "put the finger" in the next major step of AMSO, which will consist, as you know, to bring the virtual cockpits to life, by simulating the vessels systems. I started a nice collaboration with Yves Ruggeri to simulate the FDAI instruments.

Experimental_FDAI.jpg

As you can see on this picture, Yves has developed an experimental FDAI instrument specifically for AMSO, so we can fully test the code and experiment solutions for the simulation of this instrument in AMSO. When this will be done and the final solution will be choosen, the code will be moved into concerned vessel modules and VC FDAI needles & sphere will be animated with it. But there is still a looooong way till this step is reached !!!

Best Regards,

ACS

Thank you so much I can't wait! Every time I play orbiter I always use the AMSO addon

amazing!...:speakcool: Thanks for advance.

the LRV looks a bit... empty though... Isn't it supposed to have an antenna and stuff like that?

Read better the message next time:

"... Will follow this sequence, the equipment of the LRV (forward electronic pack, TV camera, both high & low gain antenna, etc...) ..."

"... It will be the same quality for all the rest of LRV equipments"

This is what is actually in development and therefore, cannot be demonstrated yet.

looks good :) lets hope that I can figure out how to get to the moon to use the new version of amso

Oh... sorry :fool:

Ya know, it's a good thing I started working on my own lil projects or else I would drop over dead in anticipation of your next versions.

Each "upgrade" outshines the previouse version and the usability factor goes up yet another notch.

WELL DONE !

If you look at the pictures on the real Apollo you will see how much of a mess they actually made deploying the rover, wires everywhere.
Great rover ACS!!

Yes !!!

I have a video of Apollo 15 LRV real deployment (ap15_Rover_deployment.rm). As you can imagine, this is a video we have looked quite often with Luis.

There is also one on YouTube, but unfortunately it is time accelerated and very blurry.

Hey guys, i was thinking with the LRV deployment stuff, why cant we animate a SEQ bay, simple deployment of the bay but, when your outside re-decorating the lunar surface just go near the bay and press J it will fold out a bay, with the animate expirments inside.

Good link there, also ive noticed the AMSO does not have a laser ranger.

Looks great, Alain. I've been B-Testing for the Auran Trainz 3rd party developers so I haven't been active lately. Excellent work as always.
