Hello Orbitnauts,

It's a long waited and wonderful day to day since the AMSO has officially launched for Orbiter 2016. Looks like Christmas came early this year.

AMSO has been beta tested with the 3.12 [stable] version of the D3D9Client.

Please, spend a moment to read "readmefirst.txt" located in \Doc\AMSO\

(for correct lunar surface operations. "linear interpolation" must be selected from Visual effects tab)

Here's the original release announcement: http://orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/index.php?topic=14450.0

We wish you happy holidays and exciting Apollo missions!

Wow, amazing! However, it is more than 300 120 MB and I will not install it until I would master in Orbiter.

I also have a question about this add-on, does it work without any sound add-on? If not, which one? OrbiterSound or XRSound?

Yes, it works without sounds but there are lot of sound/audio tracks from the actual Apollo flights, so, sounds are pretty important.
OrbiterSound 4.0 seems to be working. The latest build of SoundBridge/XRSound plays the sounds well too, and it's said to be more compatiple with Orbiter 2016.

AMSO should be pretty easy to install. Everything you need is included. There are not much external dependencies if any.

Ok figured it out and again looks like AMSO could be one of the best addons in 2016

Thanks a bunch

This is really awesome! I was just planning lunar mission to m base in 2016. Thanks for sharing!

Just landed Apollo 17 and it still sinks into the surface

For a correct lunar surface operations. "linear interpolation" must be selected from Visual effects tab as well as "Max resolution level" 19 and "Experimental lunar surface interpolation" from D3D9Client configurations must be enabled.

Could you check that these are set correctly and if it still sinks into a terrain then could you take a screen shot.

Here's a screen shot of typical ground contact. A17 in this case.

SoundBridge has some problems with performance and extensive Orbiter.log output but other than that it plays the sounds well too.

SoundBridge has performance issues? Are you sure it is the bridge and not XRSound?
The log output could be addressed, but the performance issues are strange, being just a thin API wrapper.

It's known that writing to Orbiter.log is exceptionally slow operation. It's possible that Martin have added a sleep()/wait() instruction to logging operation to avoid the log from growing very larger in a case of per frame log writing. So, just a few lines per frame can cause significant impact in performance. Also, writing in the Orbiter.log a lot can cause startup delays in some add-ons.

So, I would expect that writing in the log is the reason behind a performance drop.

Just a very important note:

Please YOU MUST READ the "readmefirst.txt" file located in the "<your_orbiter>\ Doc \ AMSO " folder.

There is some explanation inside which will save you from certain problems (eg like the one encountered by Barrygolden) .... ;)

And... have a look to theeses Pappy's screenshots on the french Dan's forum : orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/index.php?topic=14450.msg219284;topicseen#new

*checks calendar*

Is Thursday the new Tuesday???

EDIT: I am in heaven right now. AMSO was a solid 50% the reason I even played Orbiter in the first place.

Oh my god - AMSO for orbiter 2016 !
I have been following this project for ages on the side .
And now - its here !

I have been waiting three years for the AMSO 2016 version! I am hoping that the Sea Dragon addon is developed to simulate the Apollo CSM launch from water!
