Geminids over LAMOST telescope

Space dust from asteroid 3200 Phaethon rained into the Earth's atmosphere, and burnt as meteors at about 100 km above Xinglong Station of National Astronomical Observatories of China, piercing the night sky over the Guoshoujing LAMOST telescope.

All meteors seemed to radiate from the same point, which lies at Gemini, and that’s how the meteor shower named Geminids.

Over 100 meteors were captured in the composed image taken on the peak night of the 2015 Geminid meteor shower, and the brightest bolide even instantly lit up the landscape.

As the peak of 2015 Geminids, most of China is cloudy or worse. But after snow in the night of 13th Dec, Xinglong Station of NAOC (National Astronomical Observatory of China) has very clear atmospheric conditions. In the night of 14th Dec,I saw the wonderful cosmic fireworks show in the temperature of -10°C. Here are 74 meteors captured in 6 hours from midnight to 6 o'clock 15th,Dec,2015.They are composited to one pic by the alignment of stars. At 1:29 a.m. (Beijing time),15th Dec, a jewelry blue fireball "dropped In the treetops" and the cosmic fire lighted up the wall of LAMOST.

The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fibre Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST), also known as the Guo Shoujing Telescope after the 13th-century Chinese astronomer.

The annual Geminid meteor shower is raining down on planet Earth this week. It will peak on the night of December 13 through the morning of December 14. Geminid rates can get as high as 100 per hour, with many fireballs visible in the night sky.
Recorded near the peak in the early hours of December 14, 2012, this skyscape captures many of Gemini's lovely shooting stars. The composite of exposures was made during a three hour period overlooking the Dashanbao Wetlands in central China. Dark skies above are shared with bright Jupiter (right), Orion, (right of center) and the faint band of the Milky Way. The shower's radiant in the constellation Gemini, the apparent source of all the meteor streaks, lies just above the top of the frame. Dust swept up from the orbit of active asteroid 3200 Phaethon, Gemini's meteors enter the atmosphere traveling at about 22 kilometers per second.

Shooting stars - 2015 Geminids meteor shower filmed in real-time

Meteor shower with satellites

Sat, 02 Jan 2016

Here is a video of the shooting stars shower of mid-December (Geminids), filmed with the Sony 7S. It's not completely off-topic: there are several satellites, including Cosmo-Skymed 4 flaring. The Cosmo-skymed family seems to produce nice flares!
