Before my wife passed away, I was working on an addition to the Edwards AFB and USAF Plant 42 add-on, which would add Plant 42's Site 10, with the big Lockheed Skunkworks hangar, as well as the locally famous BJ's Corner observation site.

I would say it was about 90% finished with it, but I ran into an odd glitch I couldn't figure out, and left it.

Now that I'm back, I'm going to see if I can't finish this and put it up on Orbithangar.

I just heard this today, which gives me more incentive to finish it, from someone who actually works at Plant 42:

"This is great! I work on the facilities team and this is as good as some of the renderings we get from our architects."

Very sorry for your loss. The add-on looks awesome, can’t wait to try it out!

Just to give you a sense of scale, the main Lockheed hangar at Site 10 dominates the Antelope Valley skyline. Here is a view of the entire Antelope Valley, looking north from "Vista Point", entering the Antelope Valley from the south on the 14 freeway. The hangar is about 5 miles away from this point.

(In the foreground is "Lake Palmdale", an artificial lake about 1 mile long and half a mile wide.)

Any plans of adding the Boeing/North American (BNA) facilities where the orbiters underwent final assembly as well as the OMDPs? If you want it, I can donate a Orbiter Lifting Frame (OLF) mesh. The OLF was a cut-down version of the EDW/KSC Mate/Demate Devices(MDDs) that was transportable and originally used at VAFB's North Base. Once the AF decided not be involved with the shuttle program anymore, the OLF was relocated to Palmdale, to get rid of the requirement of the long overland transport of the orbiters to EDW for mating to the SCA. Endeavour/SCA-911 KSC delivery ferry flight was the first use of the OLF at Palmdale. The OLF was installed at an apron area just east of the main facility building.

Is it not there? If not, I can see about adding it after I finish this. Might as well! If I recall, that was on the north side of the plant, along Avenue M. Did they not tear those down? I'll have to have a local friend go eyeball the spot.

I was thinking of having the hangar doors able to be opened, but I'm not all that good with that sort of thing, and I was already running into problems on just a static mesh (not sure why... clipping, I imagine?).

I think part of the problem I may have had with Orbiter the last time I was playing it was that my graphics card is way old. I'm working on upgrading it, so this may be on hold until a new card arrives. We'll see what happens.

I wish I could find some photos of that area, from like across the street, while it was there. That would also help.
