Just X5.4 solar flare. In 2003, we had a X45 flare, and nobody talks about it.

This is only the second largest and it is probably only going to have a very minimal effect on us. I really don't see why it's getting so much attention.

This one is not even a top 100 flare in recorded history. Especially not if you include ice core data. In the past 25 years, this is one of the 10 strongest flares.

Sorry I meant to put "in this maximum".

I wonder how many suicides and mass item selling would happen before 12/21/12?

I liked this 2012 nonsense better when I had the mistaken belief that the date of the doomsday was 12 12 2012. My birthday.

Now I can't make increasingly more bs claims of how I stopped the apocalypse, and what fun there was in all this is gone.:(

I think it's a good excuse for not buying presents. You can say then: "The world was supposed to end". :P

I'm sure the people who voted "Absolutely ! No Christmas presents this year!" were joking.

I hope.

Same reaction by me.

But don't worry doomsday thinkers, the earth ends at about 5 billion years.

Sorry:lol: One of those was me. I don't really know why I pushed that button, maybe my brain wanted me to troll:shrug:. I certainly can say I don't believe in it...

However I might say I believe from now on, as orb's suggestion is brilliant.

The whole 2012 thing doesn't even rise to the level of scare tactics - it's pure unadulterated stupidity. For starters not even the Mayans themselves predicted any sort of apocalypse or end of the world. It's simply the last day in their calendar - no more dangerous or significant than the last day in our own. Secondly, the Mayans were, in reality, a highly primitive superstitious society. Yes, they did have a marginally better understanding of some of the laws of the universe than others did but this was not an advanced society by our standards. They had no more of a method of predicting the future in those days than we do today. Finally, the whole basis of this end of the world theory, the so-called galactic alignment is so much bovine excrement that it isn't even remotely funny. Anyone who uses Orbiter and understands the basics of gravity knows that there is not even a remote possibility of mininal danger from such an alignment.

Discovery News: Mayan Ruins Describe Dates Beyond 2012 'Doomsday'

SPACE.com: Oldest Mayan Astronomical Calendar Discovered:
The oldest-known version of the ancient Maya calendar has been discovered adorning a lavishly painted wall in the ruins of a city deep in the Guatemalan rainforest.

The hieroglyphs, painted in black and red, along with a colorful mural of a king and his mysterious attendants, seem to have been a sort of handy reference chart for court scribes in A.D. 800 — the astronomers and mathematicians of their day. Contrary to popular myth, this calendar isn't a countdown to the end of the world in December 2012, the study researchers said.

"The Mayan calendar is going to keep going for billions, trillions, octillions of years into the future," said archaeologist David Stuart of the University of Texas, who worked to decipher the glyphs. "Numbers we can't even wrap our heads around."

Take that, all the 2012 Doomsday believers. :P

But ... but... they've made calculations about it! I've read it in a book!
