Can't you smell my T levels?
Great

Thanks to Martins for fixing the Beta and to you for continuing the development.

Here is my report:

1) Orulex fails to load. First off, should I install it into the Beta package or is included in OGLA? One way or another Orulex fails to load with Terrain is ON.

2) OGLA config window can't be reopened after closing it in one session

3) Generally, high res textures are not loaded. In this scenario at this distance I had this view (it doesn't always happen):

lo-res-tex1.jpg

and few kilometers higher I had this one:

lo-res-tex2.jpg

4) Sometimes I get this, regardless of the settings:

filtering.jpg

5) Shadows look like this:

shadows.jpg

6) Multilights don't work

7) Sometimes I get 90 FPS, sometimes 30.

It's all really hard to recreate. The bugs seem to appear randomly, regardless of the options I set. The logs don't say anything particular, other than everything is OK.

My specs:
Athlon 2500
GeForce 6200
1 GB RAM
Windows 2000

Orulex system and configuration is included, but heightmaps are not, so don't try to put Orulex 1.2 over it. No modules activation is needed, it's in the client itself.

OGLA config window can't be reopened after closing it in one session
Hm. Confirmed, fixing.

Orulex subsystem is responsible for textures Lv 9 and above, so it might be linked to (1). Looks like Orulex runs, but something goes wrong.

Sometimes I get this, regardless of the settings:
{IMG}
Weird, is it random, or you pressed something? Looks like texture filtering was turned off somehow.

Shadows look like this:
{IMG}
Quite expected, the fast shadows are new and have some bugs for now.

Multilights don't work
Confirmed, umm. Reconstructing...

Sometimes I get 90 FPS, sometimes 30.
Sounds like swap file might be working. 1Gb of RAM is somewhat small, especially if you try to use Lv8 heightmaps and Lv11-14 textures all at once.

Is there a set of settings, where the bugs does not appear randomly?
Try disabling high-end features one by one, and look for results.

Your GPU seems sufficient, but close to the lower border of high-end features requirements, there might be problems with that.

Please post the ogla.log, whatever is in it.

I think I managed to reconstruct it. I disabled filtering and ran Orbiter. No change. Then I exited simulation and reran the sim. I understand that this is filtering, but the problem is not responding to this (or others) setting immediately, but after another launch of the sim.

Is there a set of settings, where the bugs does not appear randomly? Try disabling high-end features one by one, and look for results.

See above

I can't see any ships. I installed Orbiter 2006, the newest beta and OGLA. I used the orbiter_NG.exe and only activated the OGLA module, all settings are default.

Could you clarify "can't see any ships"?
Is there just nothing, something weird, etc?
Does F7, U (disable advanced graphics) changes anything?
Is there anything in ogla.log?

I have an error, Artlav.

Um, Did you per chance activated both clients?
Or there is a typo, and you meant OGLAClient?

The log suggests an installation or version matching problem, please check it out.

Which beta version?
Which OGLA version?
Please describe installation steps.
Please describe running steps.

080919 beta
080916 for 080919beta ogla

install.

copy orbiter beta in a directory, then copy ogla in it start, loading screen, ctd.
copy orbiter beta on orbiter 2006 p1 clear install, then copy ogla. Loading screen -> error message, and that line in ogla.log
using with dx7 client -> no problem.

That is the proper way to do it.
Now, could you post the whole ogla.log of that case?

Which scenarios did you try?
DG and Shuttle-A scenarios should work, Shuttle Atlantis may not, Hubble should not.

Then, try unchecking features in OGLAClient features config one by one, until it starts to work, if successful, please tell which features cause the crash.

i tried plain dg, pb shuttle scenarios.
When i get to home, i'll post the log, and i'll try ogla setting (but as i see there are just graphical settings there, and i don't think my vga (hd3850) isn't capable for some features :) )

Radeon hd3850?
Hm. Nvidia and Ati have some differences, it may cause the problem with OGLA, which was tested mostly on the former.

What are your other system specs, btw?

Now i selected a scenario what works now :)

some issues:

i enabled and disabled sometimes terrain and shadows from config
randomly i have 20-25fps or 200-400, per every restart. If i turn on shadows or terrain, i always have 20-25. Without then sometimes i got 200-400, but it's random.
if i turn on shadows, every object become reddish, but sometimes it's working correctly. But always if move to the shadow mode after high, then i get renderscn error.

Okay, so I get a loading screen error message while using OLGA.
My (most basic) Specs:
Intel 845G, Latest Drivers (32 Meg)
1.7 GHz Pentium 4
4 Gigabytes RAM
My Motherboard has the latest BIOS Update, Intel Manufacturer.

PS: I've run games successfully with this computer. So I guess it's the installation instructions posted above (or my ineptitude), I think it needs to be clearer.

(Edit: Hmm. Since the beta is public, why keep it closed?
Update 080916 for beta is mirrored here: http://orbides.1gb.ru/orbf/orbiter_080916.zip (1.5 Mb)
Where the beta is for public access - you find it :) .)

Am I doing something wrong? I don't see the Orbiter_NG app in that build. I can't figure out how to launch the OpenGL client.

1) I downloaded orbiter060929_base.zip
2) I downloaded orbiter_080916.zip from your link
3) I downlaoded oglaclient-080919_beta-080918.zip from your link
4) Unzipped orbiter060929_base.zip
5) Unzipped orbiter_080916.zip and copied it over orbiter060929_base
6) Unzipped oglaclient-080919_beta-080918.zip and copied it over

Am I missing a step someplace?

Edit: I downloaded and used 080918 from http://orbitervis.wiki.sourceforge.net/OrbiterPublicBeta and that seemed to fix my problem. Might fix the link for orbiter_080916.zip in your OP.

I would have tried 5760x1080 but I have 1 24" in for RMA at the moment. Would it be possable to add FOV settings greater then 90? 180 if possable.

OGLAClient does launch with 080918, but not with 081007 or 081111 beta snapshots.

Is the max FOV code in the client easy to change? If possable could it be changed to 180 max?

Remember that for extreme viewing angles (e.g. for some sort of semi-circular display arrangement) it is not sufficient to just increase the fov limit - you also have to modify the projection matrix itself. Otherwise you will get distortions (or even singularities) towards the edges.

By default, orbiter uses a flat projection from 3-D world space to screen space, i.e. the screen is a flat "window" into the 3-D scene. The projection is of the type

x = tan(phi)

Obviously, this projection will fall apart for phi=90 deg. But even before that, the edge distortions will become too severe to be of much use.

For a semi-circular projection of the 3-D scene, you should rather look for a projection like

x = phi

i.e. a linear mapping between angle and screen coordinates, where the observer sits in the centre of the circle. I haven't really thought much about how easy it is to set up this kind of projection with the tools provided by DirectX or OGLA. Provided that the mapping remains linear (i.e. the projection can be expressed as a matrix), it should be doable. Since the graphics client codes are public, you should be able to play around with this (of course with the caveat that DX7 has a relatively tight resolution limit, so the DX7 client may not be very useful for this experiment).

Will these clients allow moving or rescaling the HUD? If I use a 'normal eyeball' FOV for my screen of 20 degrees, the HUD has no pitch ladder per se; so I must use 60/70 degrees to make the HUD useful. Can those be scaled separately? Or moved such that I can display a forward and left view and shift the HUD to the 'forward' side?

Thanks.
