No matter how fast or how high I am, i cannot get the freaking scram jets to work.
I climb to 10KM, wait to get going at mach 3.5, pump up the scram jets and.....nothing.

Any help?

What vessel are you referring to?

The default DG-S will work from beyond 10 km at like 1 km/s.

With XR vessels, you have to go beyond 25 km and beyond 1.5 km/s.

In general, the XR vessels don't follow the realistic curves... but they're hella fun anyway ;)

Sorry, the DG-S.
For some reason, I cannot get the scram jets to work (probably doesn't help I dont know what I'm supposed to hear/see...)

The Scram jets only produce a little bit of thrust, you won't notice a large effect, when you have main engines thrusting.

You won't hear anything, they don't have any sound effects. But you will see an exhaust trail form. Get up to about 20km and rocket up to about Mach 5 and you should see them work. Easiest way to learn how to do this is to open your scram throttles wide open while you're climbing out on takeoff, and just watch the scram engine instruments until you see the needles start to move. Once you get the hang of it you can cruise at Mach 7 and about 20km, pushing a plasma shock in front of you as you go from Florida to California in about a half hour. Yee-haw! As you approach your destination field, you have to think like a shuttle re-entry, throttles closed, and manage your energy to glide in without overshooting.
