Electronics World, a UK magazine I sometimes buy, had an (moderately)interesting article about NFC (seems to be using your mobile phone to read product tags, and more to come).

I didn't take much notice of the picture, then read what products were being identified.

Haemmoriod gel, and denture fixative...

Is this their target sales group, or is someone having a laugh?

What I want to know is if someone has trouble reading the label, why is reading it on your phone any clearer?

The caption states the phone could have a text-speech synthesiser fitted.

Not sure I'd like my phone shouting out "Hey, this old f*** is checking out the haemmoriod cream".
Might liven up the trip to the supermarket I suppose.

:rofl:I can just see an elderly couple by the pharmacy and unable to turn off their phone as it's stuck in a loop yelling "ribbed for her pleasure! ribbed for her pleasure!"

Wasn't Hemorrhoid creme also useful for foot problems? When you walk around the whole day scanning price tags, this could be a idea... ;)

I hadn't heard of that, but I haven't got any foot problems;)

It looks like an idea looking for a problem. If you are visually impaired, I can see that it would be usefull. You do see elderly people(and me!) having problems reading small print on items in shops.
Trouble is old folk are usually resistant to electronic gadgets, especially mobile phones.

Maybe a dedicated hand held device, that would work with induction hearing-aids, and a large screen with large text?

There's no reason why the phone couldn't output its audio to a standard mobile phone earpiece, is there?

Probaly not, but this technology is new, and maybe it should accomadate the old technology that people of a certain age are used to?

The more I look at this sytem, the more I like it. We just have to work out the ergonomics of it.

I suspect the main purpose of this is to transmit your shopping habits to marketers or government snoops via the cellular phone system.
