Astrophoto thread (your own photos please)

Only learned about the solar storm earlier today and only realized it would lead to polar lights like thirty minutes ago. We should have some in Quebec, but right now I don't see anything. I do hope I haven't missed my chance to see them (or worse, that the light pollution of the city will hide them!)

You should be optimistic this time. They were even faintly visible to the naked eye inside the city here. Of course, the camera made a better picture of it.

September 17-18 Lunar Eclipse

The Moon photographed in Bahía Blanca, Argentina with a Kodak AZ361. Image quality reduced to avoid uploading heavy images to the O-F server.
I will be uploading images of the eclipse every half hour...

Blipping finally!!! :hailprobe:

After having clouds at the wrong moment, and in the wrong place, every single day for 2 weeks or so, I finally managed to see the comet of the moment last Sunday, and take some decent photos on Monday!
The image below is a hand-made stack of 2 photos, plus a bump up in contrast.

Still have a few more photos to stack, so a better result is expected.

I saw my second eclipse today (the first being last year's)! Since the peak of the eclipse in Quebec City was at 6:35 in the morning, I left home at around 6:20 to go see it. Since sunrise was at 6:30, I only had a brief window to see the best the eclipse could offer.

Unfortunately, I live in a city, which means that there are buildings and trees around that can hide sunrises. But, fortunately, there is a farm field near a store I went once or twice. Even better: the field is lower in altitude than the shop, and it is shaped in a way that ensures the buildings on the other side won't get in the view!

So, I left home some 10-15 minutes before the sun was set to rise over the horizon, which is about the time it took me to get there. And, I saw I wasn't the only one who thought of that spot!

There were about 4-5 cars all parked, along with these two astronomers and their telescopes there when I arrived. So I went and stood on the right side of the trash container near the guys with telescopes and waited.

Once the sun rose, I tried to get my first pictures. But, my method of photography is iPhone 11 Pro Max with a 10x digital zoom, with cheap eclipse glasses placed over the cameras. As you can expect, my first shots weren't great at all.

A few minutes later, and with frozen fingers bits, I managed to take this shot. While grainy as hell, we can see a crescent!

Then one of the guys with the telescopes must have taken pity on me, because he offered me to look through his telescope! I said yes (obviously) and then used the opportunity to grab a picture through the objective. It is much clearer like that! :D

And after that some clouds moved in and, since the eclipse was already less and less prominent, I decided to leave.
So yeah, that's it. It was a fun morning :ROFLMAO:

Those are nice! (y)
Now I'm ashamed of the results of my pinhole camera box + cellphone...

Instead of that I could have an almost full-frame image of the Sun, but I couldn't find a filter in time...

Well, it was about 20ºC here, so I guess not all was bad.

I thought GLS is in USA, but judging by eclipse photos, no...

Finally had a window to go looking for A6 and R2, darkest sky available aka looking west by the ocean. R2 was nowhere to be seen with the available gear (cheap monocular and a phone). Best I could manage of A6:

Far from ideal setup but still a bit disappointing, not sure if it has peaked yet. Last year's (A3 I think?) was definitely more interesting even with a worse camera, same spot:
