In other news, here is a somewhat noisy image from NOAA 15 weather satellite as it was passing over Brazil, that i received with an antenna made out of garbage while sitting under the rain in a field.
Fun times.

It's probably been said already, but:

Goldfish put Lincoln Logs in your sock drawer.

First day in Cologne. I am essentially lost. Its over 20 years that I was in Cologne, and the last time was limited to one week being busy inside the Mudra barracks there before traveling home again.

For the first day, I needed about twice as long as calculated for getting from A to B, because I often managed to leave the subway and go straight into the opposite direction as needed. My visual navigation system is really disturbed here, but luckily, my smartphone works. And I still have no clue about the public transportation system here.

Now, the adventure has started.

If you see a frenzied female psychiatrist chasing after escaped mad people, say hello to her from her brother, please

I'll remember to do this the next time I see her.

It might be possible I already met her by chance, some hyperactive female person asked me strange questions 5 minutes after leaving my car and looking on my smartphone for the address of the apartment management.

It really only added to the confusion.

Oh, she's not hyperactive. She just has some pretty hilarious/horrifying work-stories to tell.

Hopefully customer will bring bottle or two in addition to payment

On the one hand one would hope so, on the other... it's Jack Daniels.

In 20 years "my car is manual" will mean it has steering wheel.

A few months ago I spoke to a guy who works for a tourist railroad, which happens to own a Ford Model T truck, converted to run on rails. The truck was in perfect running order. To my surprise, the guy told me that the Ford Motor Company still supports the Model T and you can order parts from them.

So now I kind of want a Model T...

Knowing how crude muscle cars are I am not surprised that they still support it...

In Europe, you simply use an unsynchronized ten speed manual transmission. Yes, those still exist.

Many of our army trucks still have have unsynchronised transmissions, but I can't remember them having 10 gears...

Isn't that pretty much the most common configuration for an 18-wheeler? (At least in the U.S.)

Yes, but usually, it should be synchronized by now. Only some offroad trucks are not synchronized because it allows more torque per kg gear box.

The swiss government finally decided to give up on the big software project to create an all-in-one solution for all government business that was in development for the better part of a decade. Total loss: About 175 million chf. Thanks, waterfall!
