50 years and 1 hours ago, Gemini 1 lifted off unmanned into its simple first unmanned test flight... and nobody seems to remember it. :(

Not even NASA. I am disappointed.
 
The manned flight is of course, more significant.

The manned flight could have never happened without unmanned testing.
Then again: Apollo couldn't have happened without Gemini.
 
I have always had a soft spot for Gemini....specially since it was designed by a Canadian!

He came to NASA after the cancellation of the 30 years ahead of it's time Avro Arrow Mach 2+ Interceptor aircraft.
