Can't you smell my T levels?
Thanks for reporting. Can you give me a scenario file when all the symptoms happen for sure?

I've seen this happen myself, but I've only noticed it happen when I turn Maneuver mode off before turning Auto-Center off. If you forget to turn Auto-Center off, the Auto-Center feature is still on even though Maneuver mode is off. And there's apparently no way to turn Auto-Center off once you've turned Maneuver mode off. You can toggle Maneuver mode back on, and then go to Auto-Center and turn it off, but it has no effect.

Here, I'll make a quick video to show this:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L3Z4bMZXHk"]Orbiter 2010 - TransX Auto-Center behavior - YouTube[/ame]

It's fine like it is. I just make sure to always remember to turn Auto-Center off as my very first step after the burn is complete. But if there's a way to make it so that when you turn Maneuver mode off, it checks Auto-Center, and if it's on, it turns it off, and then turns Maneuver mode off ... if that's an easy check to make, it might be worth adding in to the next version.

Ah, so that's it... I fear that this problem will keep returning in many incarnations. Thanks for your insightful user-point-of-view.

Your doubts are rational. Although it seems easy to implement such logic, TransX code base doesn't follow some logic coding standards, so I can't promise that it can be done, but I'll schedule this for the weekend.

Unfortunately I got pains in my neck again from too much work, like I was 55... No coding for me for some time.

Incompatibility with Windows XP

A word of warning for Windows XP users:

The latest version was compiled with a compiler whose output code is incompatible with Windows XP prior SP3 (thanks Orb). I'll try to fix it this weekend. If not, use the previous version, attached to this post.

Are you sure?
I've used it with no problems, and I'm on XP.
Maybe it's because I've installed some other redist during betatest?

I'm going out for the weekend though, and won't be able to do further tests.

I'm not 100% sure, but look at this.

Old XP - compatible version uploaded. I've also changed Auto-Center warning to appear right after enabling it.

Couldn't unpack the Transx-2014.04.26-Auto-Center-fix.zip archive. Tried various archivers and got Unsupported compression method and Wrong header errors. What program should I use to unpack it if the archive is correct?

Odd. The zip file on OH isn't the same as the Transx-2014.04.26-Auto-Center-fix.zip that I downloaded in April, 2014.

The file on OH seems corrupt.

Odd indeed. I haven't updated this file.
Anyway - reuploaded. Try again.

Looks good now. I hope the OH drives aren't dying. (Bad sectors and such.)

OK, I've investigated this by re-downloading all 5003 files for OrbitHangar from my old altea web site on godaddy.com and doing a binary comparison of each file using WinMerge with my local copy on my desktop, which is what I uploaded to Xyon's server for the OHM migration on Sunday. Exactly six files did not match, which means six files were corrupted during the original OHM repository download from the old altea site to my local disk. The corrupted files were:

  • Drydock.zip
  • Onyx base.zip
  • orbiter.rar
  • Phobos-Grunt.rar
  • Runway2.dds
  • Transx-2014.04.26-Auto-Center-fix.zip

[Transx-2014.04.26-Auto-Center-fix.zip was already re-uploaded to the new OrbitHanger host (Xyon's server) by Enjo on Monday, so I did not need to re-upload that file again.] I have re-uploaded the other five corrupted OHM files to Xyon's server, so everything should be OK now.

To summarize, last weekend I moved my alteaaerospace.com Web site from godaddy.com to digitialocean.com because of increasingly common timeout problems with godaddy.com I have been having (and some members have reported). I had been with godaddy.com since 2006, but their virtual server performance has been degrading over the past number of months and so I finally got fed up with them and switched over to DigitalOcean. Xyon's dedicated server is now hosting the OrbitHanger files, so we shouldn't have any more timeout issues with OrbitHanger file transfers. As I said, my alteaaerospace.com Web site is now hosted by DigitalOcean and so the XR downloads should work better now as well.

Although everything should be OK now, if you notice any more problems with OrbitHanger uploads or downloads please let one of the staff know.

EDIT:
To clarify, the WinMerge utility automates the process of comparing the binary file contents of two directories, so it made it easy to see exactly which files did not match. :tiphat:

A new update:
Auto-Min™: Using Brent's optimization algorithm for faster searches

I'm starting to experiment with advanced numerical algorithms, and I thought I'd share. It's not much of a change, only offers faster searches for a little bit better precision. Next on the menu is Nelder-Mead algorithm, i.e. a multivariate optimization - prograde, plane & outward velocities in one go!

Update:
Auto-Min™: Using Nelder-Mead multivariate optimization algorithm for very precise searches

I've finally made it, but to be honest, I've had bigger expectations from this algorithm in context of TransX. You can perceive it as the same thing as before, just more precise. The combination with Outward Velocity works as it works... no miracles here. See it for yourself.

Hi Enjo.
First, thanks again for your awesome updates!

I have a minor bug to report in your latest TransX (even though it could've been there in ages): if you are in "glass cockpit" mode and in Target View, whenever you switch to normal 2D cockpit, the View in the MFD doesn't get correctly resized.

NC6wCdR.jpg

Then an old one, the infamous "stuck RCS" bug (still Auto-Center related):

I went through your development thread (from this post on), to refresh my memory.

I just had it happen twice in a row, after I switched Auto-Center off.
So the solution is, as blixel said, cut the engines with still some dV left to burn, switch Auto-Center OFF, and finish the burn manually.
This way I made it to my planet.

Sorry to dig such an old issue up again, but since someone even wrote that it was fixed, I wanted to tell you that it was not the case, at least for me.
