Updates SpaceX Falcon 9 F5 CRS SpX-2 through CRS SpX-12 Updates

And she's on her way.

First stage has been dropped ad second stage has taken over.

Loving that IR camera.

SECO-1!

Also, first stage entry burn has been completed.

Solar panels deployed.

Congrats to SpaceX on the successful launch. Will they say or show anything of the first stage recovery in real time?

Bob Clark

They say that the re-entry burn did occur and have good video downlink from the first stage at T+8 minutes. I think something will show up later on.....

And most importantly, welcome back in space Dragon! :tiphat:

Wraps up a great week for SpaceX! LC39A acquisition, F9R first flight, and CRS-3.

No word yet on first stage, other than what we heard during the video.

Nicely done, SpaceX!
Saw the ISS pass straight overhead in a clear twilight sky here in London, about 6 mins before lift off. About twice as bright as Jupiter.
Went back out with binoculars at about 19:50 GMT and saw four objects in a "T" formation, like this (arrow indicates direction travel)

Dragon, 2nd stage and Solar Panel covers? (or an aircraft!)
Should be due another pass in about 30-40 mins, so I'll be back out with the binocs if it's still clear.

Cheers,
Brian

It's most likely the Falcon 9. I took a photo of such from a launch last year.

Last known state for rocket boost stage is 360 m/s, Mach 1.1, 8.5 km altitude and roll rate close to zero (very important!)

From their Twitter account. From the looks of it, the first stage reentry is/was going good.

Can't wait to see the Youtube video... :)

Data upload from tracking plane shows landing in Atlantic was good! Several boats enroute through heavy seas.

And SpaceX version in full length:

Flight computers continued transmitting for 8 seconds after reaching the water. Stopped when booster went horizontal.

OH YES!

SpaceX's twitter account just reported that the first stage landed safely, roll and decent rates were in limits and the stage continued to transmit data after touchdown, but heavy seas have prevented recovery.

I wonder if the weather, would have cancelled the launch, if the first stage was to be recovered back on land?

Question: What/why is there thick black soot like smoke in the beginning of the launch?

I heard/saw someone mention mud in the flame trench. Seems likely, given the weather they've been having lately.

I must say I was a bit worried when I saw the gray goop, whatever it may be, shooting out and up into the rocket. Also very funny to see a dirty rocket fly to space.
