Has anyone here ever really flown in space?

I think the Orbiter community mostly consists of adults, right? Do we have any astronauts in the community or anybody that has actually flown in space for tourism?

Not that I know of. I think we've got a few people that work/have worked in the aerospace field. No astronauts though.

Celebrities are too cool to troll internet boards. Although they may be here incognito...

I'm flying through space right now. Quite fast relatively!

I believe the question was asked years ago (might have been M6) and the response was that although there may be real astronauts around the forums, they'd likely not announce it so they wouldn't be mobbed by people asking questions and such.

If I were a real astronaut, I wouldn't mind it. It'd be nice to answer questions for other space interested people.

I'm an astronaut... really, I just haven't been hired as one yet ;)

I haven't been in space personally, but a guy who lives six houses down from me is an astronaut. I've been over to his house once for a neighborhood barbeque. He was on one of the shuttle missions several years ago, but he no longer flies and has another job with NASA now.

I live about 15 minutes away from JSC, so we have a lot of NASA folks around here.

There's only been a handful of space tourists and about 550 people who have flown in space. Private space companies like Virgin Galactic will dramatically change that, but it's still very unlikely we have any astronauts here or any ticket-holding future astronauts. Very few people can afford a $200,000 or $100,000 ticket for a sub-orbital flight.

Fame is only fun for someone who never had too much of it.

Knowing this forum's users and attention some of them are paying to details, imagine 100 qustions a day about every single bolt of space hardware, next 100 about detailed procedures during flight and around 200 general spaceflight questions.

If we had a real astronaut, he/she would need to create dedicated office to handle O-F :P
