I know nothing of the topic. But I would guess it would be more that they weren't interested/distracted in the first place, versus just not doing it and being angsty.
Very lucky is the guy who can be single without regrets!

There's truth to that, though, particularly among adults. Friendship is no great thing by this point - everyone has become too complex to easily fit together any more.

At the risk of sounding extra cynical, they also have their motivations, petty and otherwise. The closer they are, the more damage they can do when they have sonmething to gain from your suffering, or when they just have tantrums (adults are extremely prone to this) There's a 'sweet spot' somewhere between drinking buddy and lover that people just should not be in, because they're more trouble than they're worth.

I didnt know there was a point to this discussion.

To sum things up, one of the upper year physics students captured my hopelessness in one very good example. If he mentions hes a physics student to any girls, they inevitably say "Oh, you must be smart". Thats the sound of possibilities dying right there :facepalm:
