This is so beautiful, it goes far beyond watching a video of someone gliding trough the air in a wing suit. This goes to show how well adapted Humans are to the planet Earth. We cant fly and we certainly don't have wings, yet using our intelligence we learned how to soar trough the air as the birds do. Such a beautiful example of how life just goes on on this planet. A thousand years ago we could only dream of this; now can you imagine what the future holds? Life can be so beautiful.

I recommend you watch it in full screen HD.

Thank you! There has been too much pessimism floating around this forum with the Shuttle being retired.

I completely agree.

These wingsuits are awesome anyway. The idea is simple actually, and yet it took thousands of years until that stuff saw the light.

And now there is this:

That's what SpaceX is for

This month's National Geographic features Human Flight - with a photo of Yves Rossy on the cover.

If I was a quadrillionaire I'd get a flight wing like the one Yves has.

Wingsuits are only around 1500 USD. The expensive part, though, would be all that 1 on 1 training to teach you how to fly with a wingsuit.

I am talking about this:

I am talking about this:

Ooh, yea that's definitely more than 1500 dollars  Are those purple things mini jet engines or something?

Huh? Jet engines can either be made with straight enough hands or bought at just a price of an used car each, and a wing shouldn't be hard to make either.

The biggest problem would be finding a plane to jump out (or achieving >1 TW ratio).

Besides, making another such jet-wing-pack would be a copycat, and so not quite cool.

Yes, those are jet engines usually sold for RC jets. The smallest ones have about 3 kg of thrust and those usually sell for around 1500 USD. I've seen the larger ones cost upwards of 7500€...

Couldn't you just take off vertically?
Thrust to weight ratio. You'll need about 200 kg of thrust total, or 50 kg per engine. The best i heard of do about 20.
Even if it was possible, that's one hell of an unstable system to get off the ground - you'll need thrust vectoring or RCS to keep yourself upright for the first few seconds, or high enough TW ratio to get the wing to produce enough force before you cartwheel.

this guy can!

when i'm a millionaire, i'm surely getting myself one of those

i'm always amazed of the possibilities that open up when one embarks in a reckless disregard for gravity...

then fear of heights really doesn't make much sense.... falling from them has never hurt anyone - as long as that sudden stop at the end can be avoided, that is

Anyone seen this before?
Infinite fuel beats low specific impulse any day!

It looks like someone with a business and inventiveness streaks seen this:
