I think no comments are needed. I only wonder how could that happen...

mustve been pretty damn exhilarating to have been on that little CRJ, hope nobody got hurt in that, but it was a pretty hard hit

i can imagine that somebody (or a few somebodys) got in some serious trouble for that happening.

I think first person blamed on this will be ATC. Second one will be A380 commander.

The ATC recording of the incident.

It sounds like the ATC told the Air France to hold at another point (At Kilo Delta which would be 4 taxiway junctions ahead). This looks like all the parties did something wrong, The Delta flight stopped too close to the taxiway, ATC for not telling the Air France A380 to give way or hold short, and the Air France A380 for not seeing it and stopping in time.

I think in this situation, the buck goes first to the A380 commander, because he is directly responsible for the safety during taxi operations and his plane simply crashed into the other plane which was just standing there - he should know the dimensions of his plane better than anybody else.

Also why did the CRJ stop already so soon? I doubt the CRJ pilot did this because he enjoyed it, there has to be a reason which we didn't see in the video properly. Might be good to know if the CRJ was forced to stop that early without somebody warning the Airbus over radio that its taxiway is still blocked.

The A380 has currently the biggest wing span, if I am not mistaken, possible that nobody of the involved remembered the few meters more, when taxiing on a taxiway that wasn't especially designed for a A380.

The CRJ can still be lucky... I remember a taxi accident of a Tornado with a car, which left a stronger impression - the sharp wings of the Tornado cut the roof away.

That CRJ is a pretty good size plane, yet it got tossed around like a toy.

Just look at the Indian frigate, that was sunk by a German freighter, without damaging the freighter even slightly as much... usually such a frigate is also no small ship, but the other was even bigger.

oops, missed the original post.

No one was hurt they say, but that must have been some jolt they got inside that smaller aircraft :)

Damage to the wing of the Airbus

And to the tail of the CRJ

Tiny damage of the CRJ left horizontal stabiliser in comparison to the wrecked wingtip of the A380.

If it were a streetfight, you'd say the little guy won.

Analysis of the incident by aviation specialists:

It is unclear where exactly the CRJ was stopped in this area and for how long. When given instructions to taxi to a ramp area, aircraft are not supposed to stop on taxiways unless they advise ground control ahead of time. The Delta ramp area may have been too congested for the CRJ to fully clear the taxiway.

In the case of the Airbus, all aircraft in motion are to ensure that their movement will not cause a collision.
