Sounds like the sort of thing you need to take up with your bank, IE6 has been obsolete for years...

They're using a custom application that supposedly improves security (by requiring you to enter your password via an onscreen keyboard). It, in turn, relies on a bunch of stuff specific to WinXP and IE6. Not even updated windows XP with newer IE versions will work.

Chrome is the cleanest-looking browser that I've used and the most compatible. I use it often, but I cannot live without NoScript for Firefox so Firefox will remain my default.

There is NotScripts extension for both Chrome and Opera. I can't live without TabMixPlus, which is only available for Firefox.

And don't tell me Firefox doesn't look clean:

Firefox for me. I've used Chrome before; I admit that it's clean and fast, but I use Firefox both out of habit, and because I love my addons. NoScript, TabMixPlus, Adblock Plus, Rikaichan...also my favourite IRC client, ChatZilla, is conveniently made for it.

I'm sure someone who plays Orbiter can understand the appeal of having nice addons.

Also, Tex, blocking IE is pretty lame, although I can work around it easily by using the developer toolbar to change the user agent string to something else.

Places blocking IE specifically are just being spiteful.

Well, my other forum there is a private place for friends who I race with in which none of them happen to use IE, so there was no loss in blocking it all together. Also, while I will freely admit that I dislike IE very much, there is another legitimate reason why I blocked it which has nothing to do with being spiteful. If my forum there was not a private club for friends, then I probably wouldn't have blocked IE totally because there are still many people who use IE or in most cases don't even realize there are other alternatives.

I'm sorry to say, but from my experience running websites the past 4 years, no browser has given me more headaches than IE. Perhaps my view of it is jaded because of that vs. had I only been looking at it from an average users perspective.

Wow, that's terrible. Requiring you to enter your password via an onscreen keyboard is no more secure than a physical one, and in fact by forcing users to use XP and IE6 (which are less secure than more modern OSes/browsers) you're actually opening them up to more issues.

TBH, if a bank I was a member of tried that nonsense, I'd tell them where to stick it as I took my money elsewhere.

Hielor, you're views are a little biased, surely you can admit that. Your posts read like a press release. Do you get commissions for this? Either way, in the site you linked as evidence for 45% of users using IE, you fail to note the steady decline of IE. And also the steady rise of Chrome. Even with IE8, it's only holding steady. You also fail to point out how IE comes prepackaged with the leading OS. A lot of users (like parents who don't know any better, novice users, etc) don't know anything about other browsers, and wouldn't even know there are other options. And of course popularity =/= performance, usability, etc.

I've got to go with Chrome. IE is just slow and I used to use Firefox but although it's fast once it finishes loading it takes forever to open up the window on my desktop. Same goes for Apple Safari. Chrome is also the least cluttered web browser I've ever seen. (Admittedly the last Firefox version I used was 3.5 and I've never tried Opera.)

Perhaps because none of those things were relevant? I felt that anyone who followed the link qould be capable of seeing that on their own.

I could always have linked just to the February results if I was intentionally hiding the decline in the IE userbase. As far as performance, usability, etc...IE fell way behind after 6, but IE9 is on par with the other browsers at this point.

That's FF4? I'll wait until it's finished. I've used NotScripts before but didn't like it. I'm sure there are a few other of my add-ons I can find worth sticking to Firefox for.
Speaking of compatibility, I have a little experience with HTML and CSS. Once I opened my to-be website in Internet Explorer after working on the CSS, I had some troubles with its coding. Not in any other browser.

One improvement that I'm quite happy with in IE9 (even without having used it), is that it apparently is much more standard-conformant than earlier versions of IE.

I know what you mean. At least on my netbook, IE runs sloooooowly and hangs quite often. Using Google Chrome, on the other hand, is a breeze.

WOW Ive never heard of apple safari. I will personaly say motzilla firefox is best I have Google Chrome and IE but Motzilla FireFox has to be the best.

Jamesep3, Safari is the browser that comes with all Macs. It's also available for PC.

Chrome here!! Always!!

Loads fast and doesn't take half the screen... plus, I really like the tabs on top thing.

I only use Firefox when Chrome is unsupported, like my bank's site...

And I only use IE to download Chrome and FF :thumbup:
