I saw 2001odyssey and i wanted to throw my computer out the window and fry my cell phone using a microwave after i saw it... Basic summary of the movie: Good science... Bad way of putting it on the silver screen...

The films of Tom Clancy books:

  • The Hunt for Red October
  • Patriot Games
  • Clear and Present Danger
  • The Sum of All Fears
All of the James Bond movies (especially Connery, Moore and Brosnan)
The Count of Monte Cristo (1975 film)
Blade Runner
and many more ...

All the good Sci-fi's:
Battle: Los Angeles,
Apollo 18,
2012,
Knowing,
District 9,
Apollo 13.

And a few of the war films:
Dr Strangelove,
Red Dawn,
The Last Samurai,
Black Hawk Down,
Saving Private Ryan,

Plus some of the oldies:
Lawrence of Arabia,
Cleopatra,
A Bridge Too Far,
The Longest Day,
Battle of The Bulge.

But i hate those new Sci-Fi animation takes like (Planet 51) etc. because they are so wrong and clichéd.

Wait how was battle LA?

Inception... I love that movie.

I'm suprized no-one has said Avatar yet. It was a good sci-fi film, but felt cliched the second time I watched it. Compare it to Pocohontas (How do you spell that?), and the two are exactly the same.

Almost forgot about District 9 and Star Trek (2009). Those were very good, too.

Avatar had good graphics but was incredibly scientifically inaccurate and lacked an original storyline.

Maybe the movie is more Philosophic than cientific but what do you want? a movie complete based on science an tech? Do not interest to the general public. And I prefer a philosophic movie than a hard scifi movie where appear monsters and aliens that what only they want is to kill kill and kill

Im not engineer yet but I have the impression that the Venture Star Ship is well made
(assuming the existence of unobtanium) I think the solar sail had to be more big.

Someone have seen Starship Troopers? I also like it like a action film :)

Hmmmmmm...

All-time favorite: The Matrix
2. Inception
3. Hard one, maybe Avatar or the Matrix sequels.

I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi, and war movies, but I absolutely HATE so called "science" fiction crap (Is that allowed?) that lacks any kind of science. Just because it's in the future or space doesn't mean you can call it "science" fiction. A better name is space fantasy. On aliens, as long as it's not clichéd, like gray things with big eyes, it's fine.

In a simple phrase, I like realism.

I can forsee this thread turning into a thread about realism vs unrealism, in a few posts :uhh:

(Not in order of preference)

Indiana Jones (except Temple of Doom, hated it)
Shawshank's Redemption
Avatar
The Lord of the Rings
The King's Speech
Downfall
Star Wars
Forrest Gump
Back to the Future
Lethal Weapon

I'm a big fan of 80's movies, though current stuff is pretty good too.
