Bolts are the manufacturing world’s unsung heroes. If two parts aren’t welded together, there’s probably a bolt at work and an engineer figuring out how tight it needs to be. Stretch it too much and it might damage the parts. Too loose, it may wiggle.

Clever stuff, would have stopped me mangling many a thread.

If they had a wi-fi link or every bolt, you could have a wonderful real-time dynamic of the ISS. Maybe I should get out more.

Not sure I want bolts in my car to be designed with 3% reserve.
 
Its clever stuff, I do like it when modern technolgy meets old and gives it a new aspect. Wonder what these would have thought of it.

I say "these", can't remember the other UK name! Shocking, considering I did an Automobile Engineering C&G apprenticeship. My excuse is we were on UNC thread types then. Still a lot of Whitworth and ???? threads around though..
