What did you do in 2009 that was a first for you? How did it work out?

For me it has to be major home repairs. After hurricane Ike in Sept 2008, I spent the majority of 2009 gutting the entire house and rebuilding. Finally just over a year later the floors will be installed! All things considered it worked out pretty good. I learned a lot about working on houses, that's for sure! :)

Finally got around to downloading Orbiter, after knowing about it more or less since 2002!

EDIT:
Actually no, I think that was the end of December 2008. So 2009 would have to be trying my hand at C++ and Orbiter add ons....

-watched a Space Shuttle mission live that did not go to ISS
-saw Saturn
-saw Mars, and ice on another planet
-got my name launched into space (LRO/LCROSS)

I got married to Krys

For the first time used Labview and Lua (at work). Piloted a small RC helicopter. Attended the enrollment of my daughter, which is a pretty passive first. Played Wii. Understood Matlab I think.

And the best:

For the first time in 16 years celebrated the national title of my favorite football club. For three days.

Hm. Aren't you supposed to do something totally new every few weeks or so?

I don't know what I've done myself as far as firsts.
Hopefully, by the end of the year (only a few days away now), I'll see the Andromeda Nebula. I think this may be the first year that I've REALLY got to use my telescope, and I've seen Jupiter, Saturn, and the Orion Nebula. (and can't wait for Saturn to return to the night sky around February)
Also, I've had the best relationship of my life, if that counts. :)

Next year will hopefully hold the first time I fly an airplane. :D Other than that, only time will tell.

I got married to Krys
I don't think anyone can beat that. ;)

Finally had an enjoyable Christmas.

- Joined Orbiter IRC

- Learnt the liberal use of South African expletives

- Lost enthusiasm about the holiday season

So, yeah. Pretty busy year.

- Used the #Orbiter IRC for the first time
- Created my first orbiter .dll addon without too much help ([ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4195"]HL-20 Docking Node[/ame])

so not much really :(

I moved to Tampa, which is about 120 miles west from the place I was living peacefully and happily before.

-Tried to figure out what to post in this type of thread and the only thing I can think of is "Found out I have a mild personality disorder".
-Had a second child
-Watched live coverage of a shuttle mission (more than the launch)
-Bought an LCD-tv

Those from top of my mind

  • Compleated my first semester studying aerospace engineering.
  • Brushed up on my C++
  • Got a big chunk done of my next addon project.

That's just about it, of course I made sure to hail the :probe: the appropriate number of times.

Went to prom
Got back together with my old girlfriend
Broke up with my girlfriend
<Censored due to inappropriateness>

Saw Jupiter
Visited Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn in Orbiter (learned how to use IMFD)
Became an IRC regular
Introduced a friend to Orbiter, and had her try it. She enjoyed it! (but her computer cannot handle orbiter)
Tried to fix my uncles computer from a virus. It worked for 2 days
Applied for college

-Passed the 1-year unemployment mark.
-Failed my first college class in 2 years, would have been the last class before graduation.
-Moved back home.
-Learned to play guitar to alleviate unemployment boredom.

Except for that last one it was a pretty ugly year, and I'm glad to almost be rid of it.

Similar to Kaito.

-Went to court.
-Was cheated on by my girlfriend of 2 years.
-Got back together with my ex from 3 years ago.
-Reflected on how crappy the year has been and hoped that 2010 would be better.

I bought my first car (as an adult i.e. without my folks)

I graduated college (sort of, I have a degree but I'm still taking classes to kill time).
