Updates STS-132 Updates

Rest well, Atlantis! We owe a lot of our achievments during the past years to your service.

CDR Ken Ham has signed off Atlantis for the final time and has disembarked. :(

The old P6 Truss batteries on the ICC-VLD in Atlantis's Payload Bay have been in space since STS-97 in November 2000!

Atlantis is now back in OPF-1 (Orbiter Processing Facility-1), to be processed for the STS-335 LON (hopefully STS-135!) mission.

Re-entry as seen from Soichi Noguchi aboard the ISS!

Wouldn't they be restarted for testing as part of the LON processing?
AFAIK, no, not unless the processing gets as far as pad ops as an APU hotfire can only be done at the pad.

On that last photo, why are the hatches that connect the Orbiter to the External Tank open?

They allow connections to orbiter from underneath.

There are some rumours going around of permanently retiring Atlanis now and not using her for a LON flight. This is because of the large gap between 133 and 134. The current thinking is to fly Discovery on STS-133 and then turn her around for LON/possibly 135.

Check out these VERY unique photos of the interior of Atlantis post-landing!!! :speakcool:

The flyaround images have been released! They're a little late as the images were accidentally deleted from their memory card by the on-orbit crew, and had to be recovered by specialists on the ground!

Check out this awesome photo of an F-15E patrolling the skies as Atlantis launches! :speakcool:

Lt. Col. Gabriel Green and Capt. Zachary Bartoe patrol the airspace in an F-15E Strike Eagle as the Space Shuttle Atlantis launches May 14, 2010, at Kennedy Space Center, Fla. Colonel Green is the 333rd Fighter Squadron commander and Captain Bartoe is a 333rd FS weapons system officer. Both aircrew members are assigned to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C. I saw that video on your twitter feed too, absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing!

The ICC-VLD made a brief stay in the SSPF (Space Station Processing Facility) yesterday when it was transferred from the payload canister (where it had been placed upon removal from Atlantis’s Payload Bay in OPF-1) to a SPACEHAB payload container, to be transported back to the SPPF (SPACEHAB Payload Processing Facility).

The ICC-VLD in the payload canister.

The ICC-VLD being inserted into the SPACEHAB payload container. A great view of the 6 old P6 Truss batteries in this image - the last time they were in the SSPF was in November 2000!

Come on, let's pack it with ORUs and fly it on STS-135! :)
