OHM Overton Island

I love the base!
I just flew a DGIV to the moon from inside the Overton Mountain Complex and loved both the takeoff from and reentry back to the base. The takeoff was one of my new Orbiter highlight moments, I opened up the hover inside the mountain and flew straight out the doors and headed out over the ocean where I started climbing (no runways needed!). Coming back, i sticked it all the way down to the proper taxiway, which was hard because I was so distracted looking at the trees. The detail adds a lot the the feeling of coming back to Earth.

If I might suggest: first, each runway and landing pad should get its own ILS frequency. I know you have a lot, but since you're out in the middle of no where on this island, a simple increment by 0.1 would be sufficient. In particular, the two runways that have ILS frequencies attached should have different ILS frequencies for different (ie 180 deg) approach vectors.

The other thing I noticed was that the trees look great, but a little superficial as it is. Can we get more of them, particularly in the area that doesn't have any base facilities? It doesn't have to be a lot, just enough to make it look like the place is still alive (think KSC). This is also pending no major hits in framerate, of course. :)

I did some touch-and-gos this morning and it was a lot of fun. I'm thinking a WIN-OVERTON max speed run with the XR2 may be in order. ;)

These trees are the biggest hit to fps mainly because the texture is big. I tried to use them in a way that would enhance the experience as the base is used i.e. taxi, takeoff and landing, adding trees elsewhere would not add to the experiance much but would slow down frame rate quite substantially. Though I could shrink the texture for trees that are far away. ;)

You could possibly combine thigns into a "forest" mesh that looks good from a distance, since it doesn't need the indiviudal-tree detail that you need up close...

BTW, if anyone has any suggestions for bases or for Overton Island please feel free to comment. I'm a big believer in user input.
Thanks for the great add-on. Flew around it with a dgiv and it was great.
Would b nice if the mountain could open on top:)
What about a tunnel to an undersea city or an airplane elevator to one?
Underground city on moon or mars with tunnel to the surface?
just dreams .... maybe :)
could be with danSteph's new UCO that'll be possible to make?
Anyway thanks for the great work!

What are the giant red globes supposed to be?

While we're tossing out ideas, how about a SC3 door to the mountain base? That way you can seal the base up to keep out intruders who don't know Orbiter doesn't have collision detection. :)

Agreed, I need a secret lair! ;)

Probably approach lighting or something
Seems odd to me, since they're so large that you wouldn't be able to drive over them...IRL, in-runway lighting is flush with the surface, so that you can drive over it without your gear breaking off (and in this case, those globes are rather large...)

Yes I know. That was my guess and let the addon have some creative license!

Well, I know, but given that Orbiter doesn't have collision detection, I was just pointing out that taxiing through lights as tall as a man seems mildly odd :P

Well, flying around in a red triangle with magic engines is mildly odd as well but...........:P Originally they where suppose to be lights, I made them way to big (obviously) and intended to remove them before I released it but they started to blend in and I forgot about them. I am going to do an update and change them to small guide lights but they wont be flush with the ground  also going to offer a low poly and high poly versions to better accommodate those with slower machines.

First of all, great place.
Quick question: are you supposed to be able to place a ship on the L Pads from the scenario editor?

Yes, that is why I place Lpads in the hangars out side of the mountain and inside. Why are you having trouble?
