Space Shuttle Ultra development thread

And a better way to demonstrate the "twang" is to implement a proper T-10 to T0 behaviour of the RSLS(which is Redundant Set Launch Sequencer, not Redundant Sequencer Launch Sequencer) and GLS which is to cut-off the main engines if something is not right and is violating preset criteria.

This leads to alot of "twangs", rocking back and forth for a while until the motion has subsided. Just a tree-second long firing of the SSMEs produces a "twang" motion that lasts for over 5 minutes.

You mean a more or less simple damped oscillation? I think we can solve this numerically with a RK4, maybe we can use such a code sequence also for other animations.

You mean a more or less simple damped oscillation?
Yes. In the event of an RSLS abort, the "twang" doesn't just die of one full cycle(one north and one south bending), it in fact continues on for a while.

I'm in the process of researching the actual positions of these water deluge nozzles. The side nozzles seems to mounted in sets of 5 nozzles right next to the SSME blastsheild.

Yeah, makes sense, I think the Shuttle experiences already such movement from wind pressure.

One re-use of such a damped oscillation code would be developing a ragdoll physics model of an astronaut in his seat, which we could use for implementing camera shake... so the bugs in relation with CamShakeMFD are solved.

Here's a screengrab of the water deluge activated following the RSLS aboirt for STS-55 on March 22 1993. Orbiter was Columbia as the SILTS modification on the stabilizer shows.

View is from camera 071 viewing the aft and after the smoke of SSME ignition had moved out of the camera's FOV.

Looks like a rather complex shape for particle streams, any idea how to improve this? Or do we want to have more gas like effects?

Looks like a rather complex shape for particle streams, any idea how to improve this? Or do we want to have more gas like effects?
Well, I think we could achieve this "jet" stream like appearance with a custom PSTREAM texture. But for initial tests, I think we could accept a gaseous appearance.

I've checked in the first version of the OMS gimbaling. The gimballing itself works well, but the trim angles required are incorrect. For a single engine burn with an empty payload bay, SSU currently requires trim angles of P=-0.4, Y=4.5, whereas the real shuttle uses angles of P=0.0, Y=5.2. The other problem is that the TVC autopilot works well only if the initial trim position goes through the CG. I'll fix this once the trim angles are fixed.

Twang looks very cool Kwan.

Problem:
Manual RHC inputs doesn't work anymore. Moding the DAP has no effect.

DaveS: Is this for OMS burns or during normal operations? I haven't worked on using the OMS TVC for manual control, but the normal RCS DAP should still work.

Normal ops. Also it seems like saving and loading of DAP settings doesn't work anymore either. Can't mode over to PRI jets. AUTO DAP can use PRI jets but manual RHC inputs only results in VERN jets being used.

Scratch pad line on CRT seems to be filling up. Launch, then go to ops 105 and push buttons and enter items to set up OMS 2 maneuver. Scratch pad line will fill up (not clear on the next OPS or ITEM) and eventually you get a CTD.

This is relatively new.

DAP seems to be working for me. What exactly are you doing?
OK, seems to have been a glitch of some sort but the saving/loading problem still remains. Exited a scenario with the DAP in LVLH. Re-entered it and DAP was in AUTO, not LVLH.

Can't reproduce this one either. Can you post the saved scenario here?

Here you go:

Attitude is supposed to be heads-up wings-level retrograde. For me the orbiter begins manuevering as soon as the scenario starts and the DAP mode is supposed to be LVLH, PRI jets, DISC RATE all axes and NORM all axes.

Scenario works fine for me. I think this bug might be due to compiler differences.

Try the latest version; I've changed the code for loading the DAP mode.

OK, that fixed it! Thanks! I wonder why this bug decided to show up now? Haven't had any problems with the DAP until now. Worked nicely all the time.

Glad to know it works. I'm not sure why this problem suddenly came up; as far as I can tell, the old code should have worked fine.
