From your nickname I presume you're fan of Tie-Fighter game.
Greetings.
I was a huge fan back in the good old days of 1994, I got all the medals, I was the Emperor's Reach, I flew the TIE Defender and the Missile Boat and I blew up everything and they couldn't get me with my Seitek joystick.
Good times,
Now I'm trying to make an accurate simulation of relatavistic non-warp spaceflight.
Say we could build a load of railguns and a fusion reactor and whizz a probe up to near lightspeed and we could modify the timewarp on Orbiter so you could skip 30 years of journey time, would it be possible to work out how to go to Gliese 581 and send a 20 year waiting message back to earth to see what's on the surface of Gliese 581g, and if a little green man pops his head up and goes WOO. We can safely say we have proven we are not alone in the universe.
But whilst we use "warp to gliese" and load a new map....
What if we never invent warp drive?
I agree it made games a lot more playable, but I'm thinking about a real situation that may well happen (or the other way around if the Glieseians fling one at us first)
Surely only a fraction of a degree of getting this wrong would mean you fly lightyears past gliese and off into deep space. So the more accurately we can model this, the better.
Thanks you guys for welcoming me to the Forum and I feel better now I've had a rant.
