Because it's not only educational, but also genuinely fun! And of course, because it's really fun. Oh, did I mention that it's really fun?

The 'openness' of the development program doesn't really exist, since Orbiter isn't open source. Yet the add-ons really keep it living. (seriously, would you play Orbiter without sound, UMmu, realistic vessels and such?)

It's an open world. If I want to go and sit on the side of a runway I can. If I want to fly a T-38 at Mach over a base, I can. If I want to fly to Mars I can.

and no cut scenes.

Awesome.

All of the above :) Orbiter makes it possible to easily learn the rough basics of spaceflight, and it does so while being incredibly fun! Add to that the fact it's free, and you have got a winner.

8: It's just cool! :hailprobe: (I always wanted to become an Astronaut and be the first person on mars)

-closest to the old inner kid dream "being an astronaut" i'll ever be.
-sandbox the size of the solar system that let me free of doing whatever scenario i imagine.
-gameplay designed toward simulating.
-impressive addon community development, always something new to discover.
-endless fun

It's an open ended challenge. Now I am attempting to set up a sling off Jupiter to Charliko, a Centaur with a high inclination and eccentricity, and it is quite challenging.

Because of these kind of things!

...Joking, but not completely!

I love Orbiter for the reasons I selected above (all of them except for #3 and the last one), and also for the community here on Orbiter Forum. I can say without any reservation that this is the most kind, interesting, interested and overall 'good' community I've ever seen. And although I don't consider myself to be a key member of this place at all, it's nevertheless a pleasure just to watch this community communitising (or whatever it is that communities do :P).

I like it because it's pretty damn cool.

I love it because it made spaceflight physics easily accessible for me, reviving my interest in the subject of astrodynamics and playing a role in prompting me to apply to university with the intent of becoming an astronomer. :)
