Visual Studio 2015 Can Target Linux - Orbiter Distro?

Unless Microsoft also releases DirectX and MSVC++ redists for Linux, No.

Orbiter relies a lot on the windows API. Multi-platform capability isn't a question of compiler capabilities, but of the used libraries. For example, you can build orbiter add-ons with other IDEs (it's just a lot of fiddling, and let's face it, VisualStudio is about the most capable IDE for C++ out there, so there's not really a reason to do it). That doesn't mean that you could build it for another systems, however.

OK, it doesn't sound like a matter of Dr. Schweiger firing this up, announcing majestically "Let there be Orbiter on Linux!", and hitting the red Compile button. Drats! :lol:

I am not familiar with the workings of these IDEs. Before moving to Linux I dabbled a little bit in Orbiter add-ons, but outside of the SDK and the programming I really needed some hand-holding for setting up the environment. Thanks for the replies!

Someday I'll get to fire up Orbiter again...someday :(

...and MSVC++ redists for Linux

AFAIK it wouldn't make much sense to make visual studio able to target Linux without providing linux with the propper runtime libraries, so I assume that there indeed will be a VC++ redist for linux.

Unless Microsoft also releases DirectX and MSVC++ redists for Linux, No.

But without support like that, why even bother adding a feature like this? I dont see the utility of the feature if it cant be used to create reasonably effective programs.

In any case, this would change very little for emulating Orbiter on linux, Wine is about as good as its gonna get if you absolutely have to run Orbiter on linux. Why is a good question though...
