Well this is new. I was watching TV and noticed a Tornado Watch warning for my city. At first I didn't think much of it because we get many U.S. channels in Canada and quite a few times I see extreme weather warnings on those channels. Then I noticed I was watching a Canadian station. :shifty:

Guess there is a first time for everything.

So what do I do? Go outside and look for tornadoes and run if I see one?
It got very dark very quickly, just now.

If you get one, it'll be a cute swirly-cone. Probably. :P
The lightning will be the most dangerous part.

BTW, I'm so fricking jealous! We haven't gotten a single good storm this year.
It's always north, or south, or both (Half of them just break in half and go around us. :beathead:)
You and Harry enjoy the weather. I'll be in the corner screaming.
UUUURRRRRGGGGGGHHHHUUUHHHH :dynamite:

Stay indoors, windows and doors closed, stay to the center of the house. If it gets *bad* (i.e. you think the roof is going to come off) lie down in your bathtub (it is structurally rigid and not likely to crush if your house falls in.

Normally I'd say there is nothing to worry about in Toronto, but we just suffered a lot of damage in Western Mass. due to tornadoes, so now I'd advise caution.

No tornado so far. However, the lightning is so intense that it looks like high noon every time a flash goes off. And they go off every 5 seconds.

When I was in the Air Force stationed in Texas I spent some time curled up in a ditch due to tornadoes. The terrain is flat as a pancake down there and you can see the storms miles off. They seem *really* big down there and there is no place to hide. It was the only time I actually worried in a storm event anywhere.

My Department of Emergency Preparedness has a policy for this type of situation:

When in danger or in doubt
Run in circles, scream and shout!

More seriously, a basement is a good place to be during a tornado. Just have some cover from any windows!

I saw lightning hit the CN Tower no less than 5 times, from my dining room while eating dinner.

We had a strong microburst here yesterday, combined with hail. The funny thing is, the whole damage is concentrated to a 500m wide stripe, less than three kilometers long. I am pretty sure it was no Tornado (but visibility was less than 50m), but we had very high wind speeds - together with the hail, it managed to rip an outdoor lamp out of the wall of our house. But windows kept shut, only a bit of rain leaking in on the wind facing side.

It was damn loud, the whole house was shaking and already over after 5 minutes.

I had a tornado go straight through my backyard in June. It was only an F-1, and I'm kinda mad because I wasn't home to see it. My power was out for a couple days afterwards. Then in July during a storm that only had a few seconds of strong wind knocked out my power for another couple days. My power was out for about 24 hours in February after a blizzard. Three bad power outages in one year, nice. I really lucked out on the weather lottery.

But without outages and picking up sticks in my yard, I usually love storms.

We get tornado watches all the time here in Georgia. If you get a tornado warning you need to stay inside and get away from windows.
