Here is MER-B Oppurtunity from the MER 2003 addon flying about 180m above Meridiani Planum on Mars.

Here, the MER is based on Spacecraft3, and, thus, Sc3's aerodynamics have decided to take poor little Oppurtunity for a joyride.

This is why I have a problem with Sc3. Many developers turn to it because there is nothing else, and end up being bound by it's limitations
when trying to do something specialized.

I hope I haven't offended any developers out there, I just had to post a screenshot of this. It's hilarious.

If cfg can't do what you want, move to SC3. If SC3 can't do what you want, make a dll! :)
More than likely, you're problem can be resolved in spacecraft3 though.

Like making convincing ground craft?

make a dll!

I'm being driven to this point. But it still can't make a convincing ground craft.
We've had Warpdrive MFDs and Star Wars Physics plugins, maybe one of the Masters of Coding could come up with a "ground vehicle SDK".

Artlav? Computerex? Anyone?

I've heard of UCO and AFBO before.
Any idea as to when it will be released?

I was thinking of an alternative to the current way of making ground vehicles, which is to give it an engine, delete the exhaust, and steer using RCS.
Instead, I was thinking of some sort of "engine" that would impart forward velocity to the vehicle only though contact with the surface, and steering that would change the direction of travel (almost a sort of "thrust vectoring").

Also, I am not sure if UCO's config file based system (which I think is brilliant) will allow for "stuff" like the robotic arm or camera mast.

So where's the problem? Just set the aerodynamics so that it doesn't take off, right?

For the MER, sure. Just not now, I am too lazy.

Another feature of "groundcraft SDK" would be speed limit. At or near the top speed, the engine would automatically throttle down and keep you from going over that speed. It might fix the "going into orbit problem".

Gattispilot has made several very good ground vehicles that have the properties your looking for. I know he starts with an SC3 version to work out the animations and other specialized effects before moving to building the .dll module.

He's working on a project right now that uses smaller vehicles in conjuction with the main craft ( a rover being one of them I think ) so you might want to send him a pm and ask him how he codes it in SC3 first.

Won't a brick take off if you put 1KN thrust into it when gravity if 723N???
