It happens with the "Cape-2LVs" scenario that comes with Themis-A, and I haven't tried any custom configs yet. I did install Payload Manager using Universal Cargo Deck, with might or might not be the problem. I've discovered that the telescope that comes with this addon will also cause a CTD, so I'm inclined to think Payload Manager isn't the problem. I'm going to make a fresh Orbiter install elsewhere and try to add Themis-A again, and see if this was all a mistake of mine while installing them.

Edit: New install, same problems. I'm sure I checked every box and dotted all the i's. but it CTD here too. I guess this second install could be used to test fixes, or anything you can think of to narrow down what is wrong. I don't have much planned for today so I'll try most anything you think of.

Installed the PM end user files and put msvcr100.dll into the root, still crashing. I'm running WinXP, on a rather old computer to be honest. I've noticed it crashes after loading a texture with a name like srbexh.dds, which may or may not be a clue.

At this point we're trying to find the cause.

Newer libraries shouldn't cause that since everything is working without 2012 VC runtimes.

I noticed not square texture so I'm attaching square version in this post (unpack to Textures\Themis-A\ folder).

* Some older GPUs have troubles with non square textures.

Also I'd recomend installing updated GPU drivers. Also is your XP up to date (ServicePack3)?

I'm really out of ideas. Do heavy poly/texture add-ons like Energia, XR5, XR2 work for you??

Tried your square interstage.dds, and no change. While putting it into the textures folder, I had a bit of an idea seeing all the particle files, and so I tried disabling 'Particle Streams' in the Visual Effects tab and tried again. Instead of crashing with a black screen, this time it was white:blink: No idea if that means anything important.

I believe everything is up to date, but I'll check that out. As to other addons, I can run the XR2, XR5 and Energia without any problem aside from low framerates at times. I think I usually have the Energia set to lowest settings, so I'll have to investigate it at highest and see what happens.

I did try running your HCLV Hyperion last night to see if that worked, only to have it crash like the Themis-A. Since the crashes also happen with the telescope included with Themis-A, I think the problem has to be something common between them. I did try your previous Themis, the ETS-Themis, with no problems, but I don't know if this is helpful info or not.

I'll check my drivers+service pack and get back to you.

Edit: All up to date, but I was reminded that Nvidia dropped support for my graphics card back in 2008. It's the youngest part in this computer too. I can't tell if that is the problem, but I know little about these things. I'll see how things go with the Energia.

Edit2: Energia test went fine, loaded up correctly on highest settings. Framerates in the twos. If your looking to see where my computer ceases to handle meshes or textures, I've recently looked at SSU, and that loaded in the launch scenarios(similarly low fps), and that's one of the most detailed addons I've tried in a while. Quite a while back, something like a year ago I looked at Thortons's ISS and got a single fps in the station at it's most complete scenario. I suppose using Donamy's ISS A to Z might be a harder test, but I've never tried that.

I don't want to annoy either of you guys, but I'm too interested not to ask: has there been any progress in finding out what is causing the CTDs? If you've given this up as a hopeless cause, I'd like it if you let me know. It seems like this is a strange bug, and only on my machine, so I understand if you don't want to bother with it.

Once again, I shall ask if you can post the scenario file post-crash.

Thank you.

I've been trying to load up the scenario "Cape_2LVs" that comes with the addon itself. I haven't changed any of the config files for any of the rockets. The "(Current State)" scenario file only has stuff from a test to see if the install works, with delta gliders at CSSC. Since the "Cape_2LVs" scenario crashes during loading, nothing is changed in "(Current State)". While I know your trying to be helpful, I don't know what I'm supposed to do get this info with the problems I'm experiencing.

I don't know what I'm supposed to do get this info with the problems I'm experiencing.

If you want help then you need to do as asked. You say you've not changed any config files but what happens if there is a clashing addon that affects the scenario file?

If you post the post-crash scenario then others can check it and maybe spot a problem such as a corrupt file or similar.

However, if you don't wish to do as requested that is, of course, your choice.

By youngest part, do you mean it is the latest part you have installed, or is it truly the most advanced part of your PC? If the latter is the case, then (thinking out loud here, this was the first thing that came to mind) is it possible the Themis is compiled with a CPU option that is not supported by his CPU?

I have an install with just Themis-A and it's required addons, with nothing else, so there isn't any other addons to cause conflicts. I know Orbiter writes to "(CurrentState).scn" whenever it runs, but since it crashes during loading "Cape_2LVs" it doesn't overwrite anything in "(Current State)". If you know of some other way to generate a post-crash scenario file, let me know so I can try it. If I knew of some way to get a post-crash scenario file under the conditions Themis-A is crashing under, I would have posted it's contents already. I'm sorry I can't comply with your request, and believe me when I say if I could I would.

If the latter is the case, then (thinking out loud here, this was the first thing that came to mind) is it possible the Themis is compiled with a CPU option that is not supported by his CPU?

My PC has a Intel Pentium III as it's processor. Thinking about it, my brother and I did upgrade the RAM and add a second HD a while ago, but that must have been at least 5 years ago, so I guess the graphics card isn't exactly the newest part inside. Anyway, since the telescope included with Themis-A also CTD, along with the HCLV-Hyperion addon also made by Loru and Woo482, I figure that there must be something related. It could be some CPU function they all make use of, but I for one can't tell if that it or not. I do know the DirectX graphics clients required something my processor couldn't support, which if I remember right was SEE2 or something similar. I stopped looking into that a while ago though, but I could investigate it if it'd help.

Ok then, please post the scenario that is crashing and the post crash orbiter.log file.

I'm not sure if it's CPU issue. I tested Themis-A on PIII 800Mhz with 2GB of RAM, GeForce2 MX 440 and WinXP SP3 and It worked (although very slow when particle emiters were on screen) so it shouldn't be an issue.

Just a little question, I'm trying to make a little Themis-A payload to LEO sheet using this launch vehicle calculator, and I have the stats for the core and the upper stages, but not the SRB boosters. So does anyone know the stats for the SRBs? And if you do, could you post them here? I need the Isp, thrust, fuel mass and dry mass.

IIRC Themis SRB is roughly based on GEM-60 motor but unfortunatelly in my sources there is not precise info. Soon after THemis' release I had HDD crash and many of my notes were lost. Hopefully Woo482 still has c++ sorces for that but they might be overwritten by later HCLV ones.

Roughly based? The Wikipedia page has all the stats I need, but off the top of your head what are some differences which I should put into the calculator?

I really don't remember what were the differences. There was some adjusting while developement and since Woo coded it probably he has the figures. You'll have to wait for him to respond.

Edit: woo delivered:

#define Booster_FuelMass 30000
