I don't think this is a car anymore. I think it is a x-15 without wings.:p
When the driver hits a stone, he's actually on a ballistic trajectory.

according to wolfram alpha the wheels will be doing 158.1 rotations per second (a fifth as fast as the fastest known pulsar)

the acceleration of the wheel rim will be greater than the acceleration of a bullet in a Beretta Model 92S-9mm at 444099m/s^2 thats 45270 g. i find it astounding that something could hold together uner that sort of stress.
According to the wiki article (also listing 50,000g), the wheels will be machined from solid titanium so that they can withstand this.

The team expects to start running the vehicle on the Hakskeen Pan, Northern Cape Province, South Africa, in 2011.

That's if the car doesn't get hijacked...

Have to be a nippy hijacker!

I think SA was used before for speed attempts, have to have a search.

Quite a few it seems, this is the one I remember.

Looks like fun, and all for a good cause. I rememeber it was on the news here, didn't realise it was international. Though, what isn't these days.

I wonder if it was the shock wave under the car that was causing the excess lift?

I don't know, maybe they could use Orbiter to model it...slight hint for someone to make an add-on!

1000mph is some taget, its quite a leap from 763mph, the current record. Looking at the chart, the jump from Donald Campbell's Bluebird to Richard Noble's Thrust was nearly as great.

That would be fun, especially the control system and trying to keep it on the ground!

Looks like they have quite a community spirit in that endeavour, nice touch putting the other teams in the dairy. Dosen't happen in Formula One...

Indeed, 'low' speed tyres for the test runs!

Does anything date faster than a recruiting film? Some nice air to air shots though.
