Though lives were lost, the shuttle program has surely doubled or tripled the rate at which humans advance technologically and scientifically.

Everyone, welcome to the post-shuttle US spaceflight gap. NET 4 years long, but they promise to be an exciting 4 years. This year, we'll see another spacecraft leave Cape Canaveral bound for the ISS - Dragon. Next year, we'll see Cygnus and Dragon flying together to the International Space Station. Soon afterwords, CST-100 and DreamChaser will join them. Then, either Dragon, CST-100 or DreamChaser will take Americans to space again.

A very quiet landing, sneaking into the Cape just before sunrise.

I'm not the superstitious type, but I wonder if the sun rising on the stationary Shuttle is a sign that things are just beginning, not ending?
