At Cape Canaveral, Stardust 2 roared off LC-14 atop the mighty Atlas booster. Maj. Tony Nelson, the astronaut of this mission, reported everything in a go condition. Near the end of the ascent, ground equipment indicated a misfire of the Atlas and an early reentry of Stardust 2: ironically in the exact same place as last years Stardust 1 flight. Maj. Nelson was even said to be in Dr. Alfred Bellow's office. This was later dismissed when apperently there was a glitch with the equipment and showed Maj. Nelson to be in the proper orbit. After that, the mission was carried out normally. Here are some pictures:
