SSU Launch Complex 39 development

Now that HST for STS-125/HST SM4 is done, I have refocused on the MLP.

Work now is mostly concentrated on the TSMs and umbilicals. The Right-Hand TSM umbilicals can be seen in the attached screenshots.

Looks great Dave. I hope for a release very soon.
Remember, this won't be a stand-alone release. It will be uploaded into the SSU SVN repository once it is completed.

Just a small update+a request.

I have been doing some optimization work on the MLP. So far I have managed to save close to 7000 polys, most on the RH umbilicals.

Now to the request: Could we please make use of Kukanotas' hi-res/med-res KSC tiles? I have found them very accurate in terms of positions for the various OTV cameras, I have even managed to map several OTV cameras in Orbiter to their correct locations, all within just a few meters of position difference!

no problem for me, I also use them, It just means that we rely on a second add-on to SSU.

Well, it isn't that terribly hard to install anyway. Just extract and go! That's all there is to it.

On an MLP note: almost got it ready to support tanking tests! I'm right now connecting the LOX supply lines on Side 1. I'm pretty much done with the RH TSM umbilicals, just have to the LH TSM ones.

Right now A5214 SSV XFER TO PAD procedures is set for Monday with CTS set for 0500 EDT with CT 1st motion at 0900 EDT Tuesday.

Well, we should at least make sure that the KSC tiles get installed before SSU, as I think a special KSC config file will be a must for us. Also, editing Earth.cfg will be needed for including a line which allows loading bases for the SSU context, instead of having them automatically loaded.

On a side note, can you get me a set of surface tiles for Gander International and Shannon AFB? I have some trouble getting WorldMaker running properly, I am stuck at 2 fps.

OK, now I would just have to know what you mean.

I added two Child->Parent attachments to the SSU model, I think a "Ferry" attachment and a "Tow" attachment will be useful for us. Most stuff for the Pad will still be handled over the existing "Holddown Post" attachment, but maybe a interface in Atlantis to handle transfer of the various liquids and gases will be useful for your stuff. Any opinion on that?

Shannon and Gander is coming right up.

A5214 SSV XFER TO PAD is the procedure name and number for rollout. SSV is Space Shuttle Vehicle, the entire thing, Orbiter, SRBs, ET and MLP.

Then we have several other S procedures for at the pad ops, like S0022(pronounced "sue 24") which is pre-launch propellant loading(servicing of the orbiter OMS, RCS and APUs and the SRB HPUs).

Tanking tests are S0037 and TCDT are S0019.

Could be used to simulate the pad/MLP interface test they do after rollout to make sure that all the connections are OK.

Do they do the tests with compressed gases? In that case, the test simulation might need a special interface. Liquids and gases behave different enough to make it hard to just simulate them equally.

I'm not sure if it is purely electrical test of the so called 9099 interface which is located on Side 2 of the MLP which connects to a bunch of cables coming from the west side of the pad.

OK, Shannon and Gander tiles are done. How do you want them? Should I check them into SVN or should I zip them and e-mail them to you?

How large are they? I think practically, the SVN should be the best location for them, but when they are subjectively large, people might complain about long checkout times.

Everything smaller than 2 MB should be considered "objectively small."

Total filesize is 641 kB. Each of the files are 32 kB in size.

Martin was talking about changing KSC for the next version to correct the position. It will be VERY close to kukanotas' tiles.

So that might be a good choice.

What might be a good choice? Switching over to Kukanotas' tiles or sticking with the current default tiles?

Kukanotas tiles I say. I believe even after the next orbiter version, those will be the best tiles. If we want to wait however, the default new versions tiles waould work, but that's really only decided by how long you want to wait.:)

Sorry:sorry:
I meant that switching to Kukanotas' tiles would be a good idea.

Still working on the MLP. Decided to redo the Side 1 decks. Good news is that now everything including the cryo pipes are coming togheter real nice! The floors of the decks will now have metal grating just like the real ones, using an alpha mask, so that's why the white areas in the attached screenshot if you wonder.
