SR-71 development

Nav computer.

Nav computer.

There is no such thing like a nav computer, only a map projector and many many indicators for it. Also, I don't know how the map projector really works like, does anybody have more information about map projectors before computers allowed rendering of maps?

Cool, the mesh is looking awesome! I remember as a child I had some kind of card game with aircrafts and the SR-71 was my favorite! ;) It was the fastest jet in there :)

So I'm really looking forward to fly this in orbiter...!

Eh, didn't have time to actually look at it. It is the big MFD in the middle just bleow the pilots view. It should be seen clearly on my picture what I am using as a reference. Like I said before though, I won't be able to develop that much at all right now because I got in trouble so do what you have to do with other projects and such so when I can work on the meshes, we can hit it full blast.

That is the map projector... MFDs did not exist back then.

THe projector, the display, whatever it is. I am not too happy today and I am a bit sketchy this weekend.

No problem, I also don't yet know how much I will finish this weekend, I wanted to start with HSI.

The map projector is just a electro.optical device to project 35 mm film, one frame per nautical mile it seems.

Any progression at all is good to me. What exactly are the two boxes on the left and right of the pilot for? Engine controls?

Actually, just checklists and maps.

The engine controls are on the left hand console, the engine indicators in the middle right, the fuel indicators and controls on the outer right.

Fortunately that part will be easy because all I got to do is make small, flat cubes.

What would be nice, would be having a SR-71 engine starter cart mesh, ideally with V-8 motor sound, for doing a really nice engine start.

At the end of this video, you can see the starter carts in operation for starting the engines - nice detail: Watch the green TEB flash when igniting the engine.

Do you also make the aft cockpit? If you do it, make sure it is a separate mesh from the forward cockpit, as it is not visible at the same time and would allow us to save a few frames/second for cheap.

The cart doesn't look that hard to do. Im going to save it after the main part of the meshes are done. I am indeed making the aft cockpit. I'll make sure ti have each part separate for another. I would like more fps too, so that would help out.

I have a disease and the only cure is more cowbell...i mean, FPS.

Lol. I have a question about the mesh. How would you make my sr mesh and cockpit usable in FSX? I have never tried making anything for FSX.

Same here, I don't do FSX add-ons.

Most suck because they make sloppy 2-D cockpits.

Yeah, and also make annoying physical models. I would prefer the SR-71 to at least follow the performance data in the manual, than just be completely unrealistic, like reaching Mach 3 at sea level

Lol. An F-4 I used on FSX went Mach 2.3 so quick you wouldn't even know. It was stupid. Also, the ailerons and elevators were so sensitive it was almost impossible to land.

What does the cart do exactly?

What does the cart do exactly?

Provides power (over pneumatic lines) to bring the jet engines to 1000 rpm, so you can start them.

Cool. What is the final RPM? Can we have it overheat?
