Yes - config/spaceports/earth/marker directory is still there for the "customized" Earth, and any MKR files dropped into that directory will be loaded in scenarios using this separate Earth model.
I copied the .mkr files from ...config/earth/marker and pasted them to ...config/spaceports/earth/marker, but still no joy. When I click on the config button next to the surfaces selection in the Visual Helper window, the subsequent window that opens does not have any selections available (blank) under earth. It does have the normal selections available when the moon is selected.
Hm. I thought that was enough. Will have to check when i get home in the evening, don't have Orbiter at work..

Got it! Mea culpa! In the custom Earth.cfg file, there is a field for custom Marker directory - but I got it "relatively wrong" .
Instead of:
; === Markers dir ===
MarkerPath = Spaceports\Earth\Marker
Should be
; === Markers dir ===
MarkerPath = Config\Spaceports\Earth\Marker
BTW, if you completely delete or comment out that custom field, Earth will implicitly reference the original Marker directory (with cities, impact craters, etc) - because the name of the custom Earth config file is the same as of the original planet.
Great, thanks! I did not use the feature yet, so did not notice the problem. But it is nice to be able to add custom set of markers, independent from the other addons. Great flexibility here!
I am planning to release an update to Spaceports fairly soon, and I'll add the MarkerPath fix to this update.
