The "knocking" is the RCS being fired. Yes, that is what they actually sounded like.Where is the buzzing background noise, and the knocking sounds coming from? Never heard it in any recording of Apollo before

The constant noise is from the DSE recorder. That recorder would be running at several points during the mission, and then transmitted (or "dumped") to the ground.
