Space Shuttle Ultra development thread

Any idea when the displays will be ready? I could do some work on CRT MFD, but ther's not much point if the display functions are being changed. Also, how should the RMS be controlled? I'm looking at using fake thrusters to rotate/translate the arm.

I have the first MFDs fixed, the rest will take a moment.

Any updates on the MFDs?

Checked in a fix for the incorrect US Flag and wing name paintings. They were too much inboard of the wing.

I'm thinking of using the thruster control keys for RMS maneuvering. If the thrusters are OFF, the RMS will be maneuvered. Otherwise, the regular rotation/translation thrusters will fire. Any comments?

Sounds logical to me !! Can't wait to try it. Will it replace the box used now, for the RMS ?

Edit:

Could be also have keys for selecting the camera view?

Sounds good.

For the moment at least, we'll still ned the box to control joints individually. I could look at setting the view by keypresses.

Could you also look into selecting the numkeys for camera panning, by holding the control key, so they could work with the RMS keys ?

Possibly. The idea is to switch between the thruster controls controlling the RMS and the thrusters. This would mean that a joystick could be used to maneuver the RMS. I'm not sure if using a similar method to control the cameras would fit in with this idea.

Is there a cockpit switch which activates/deactivates the RMS controllers? I need some way to switch between controlling the RMS and the thrusters.

How about by the station you are at ? Since the controls fro the RCS are on the left side (looking aft) of the aft flightdeck, and the controls for the RMS are on the right side (looking aft).

edit:
The left side would be called the 'docking station', with the monitor on the left showing the ODS docking cam view. Looking up you could look through the COAS.

The right side would be the 'RMS station', with the monitors on the right being different outside camera views(only one possible I think).

Donamy: In this case, what would happen for an external view? I don't like the idea of controlling either the RMS or the RCS based on the last cockpit position used.

You're going to be either flying the shuttle or flying the RMS, you're not going to be doing both. I don't think it would be a problem, as long as it reverts back, to the same cockpit position, that you were in. If you change focus to another ship, then it would be alright, if it didn't remember which station it was at.

Do you know of any free software that can be used to cut-out selected pages from an already existing pdf file?

I do not know well if I understand what you want to do DaveS. It for you acts to have a software which can remove pages or parts of text, images... in an existing pdf ? In that case I probably have what you need (and I can address it to you).

Don't worry about it, you're replying to an old post(you should really read the entire page in order not to get things taken out of context). I got it solved.

I've read yesterday the pages of this topic from the first to 41è one by one.

OK, back from easter vacation with my family, and back to SSU... I have heard somebody still misses the MFDs. ;)

I will now do the remaining MFDs and check in the changes.

Great! Will it include the revised CRTMFD layout?

Not yet, it's just a fix to restore existing functionality. But I have an idea when I can do that new feature.

PS: It snows here currently! Snow in March! Moonwalker was right, we get a new Ice Age.

Are we close to a working model, so I can resume work on the panels ?
