I don't see a problem with using SSU anything. As long as it's for the good of Orbiter. JMO

Actually I am using External Tank from SSU, it looks great, cables, cable tray etc., are 3D modelled, not painted...

Present cargo bay is kinda "photorealistic", SSU's is a bit "generated\drawn".
The only thing I did was copying another texture portion to replace "dark shading spot" in the front. Present texture has floodlights drawn, along with some wires. Also in real life STS-bay changed from one flight to another...

Payload bay side walls were vertical just ~40 cm down from upper side (sill?).
Then there was a slope. With GAS canisters on the sides problem is not slope, but lack of "adapters\interfaces"...

So. I can straighten the edges. The SSU payload looks more white,....

So keep the Atlantis one?

---------- Post added at 01:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:16 PM ----------

Also what is max mfd's? I think it is 10. It has been suggested to make the 2 MFD on the right side of the aft into active mfd's

Yeah, maybe let's keep Atlantis bay for now.
Yes, by the way I was testing this new ColumbiaORG2016G mesh, trying to find proper animations (more accurate coordinates) for umbilical and payload bay doors.
I made spacecraft3 vessel, and adjusted EXT TANK HATCH (umbilical) door animations:
Code:
[ANIM_COMP_13]
; umbilical (right side)
SEQ=5
GROUPS=18
RANGE=(0,1)
[B]ROT_PNT=(1.34248,-2.841351,-7.224106)
ROT_AXIS=(0,-0.0523,0.9986)[/B]
ANGLE=-180.0

[ANIM_COMP_14]
; umbilical (left side)
SEQ=5
GROUPS=19
RANGE=(0,1)
[B]ROT_PNT=(-1.34848,-2.841351,-7.224106)
ROT_AXIS=(0,-0.0523,0.9986)[/B]
ANGLE=180.0
Seems to be that these should be most accurate ROT points, so that there is no gap at all when they are opened.
And for payload bay doors I did not see significant gap when they are opened:
Code:
[ANIM_COMP_0]
;left door
SEQ=0
GROUPS=11,42,43,48
RANGE=(0.3656,0.7043)
[B]ROT_PNT=(-2.835,1.287,0.0)[/B]
ROT_AXIS=(0,0,1)
ANGLE=175.5

[ANIM_COMP_1]
;right door
SEQ=0
GROUPS=12,41,44,49
RANGE=(0.0,0.3387)
[B]ROT_PNT=(2.84,1.29,0.0)[/B]
ROT_AXIS=(0,0,1)
ANGLE=-175.5
I noticed 2 things though - gaps in OMS pod meshes. They are in place where tile texture meets blankets. Near the front of OMS pods.
Minor - on left (port side) door, 3 or 4 forward hinges are sticking through outer door mesh, when it is closed. But just a little bit. I even found vertexes and moved myself.

Can you do a screenshot of the 3 or 4 door hinges.?

On the OMS pod are you taking about these?

One issue I found while redo the mesh is the main mesh isn't centered. So if you mirrior things they are off set.

BtiHsz4.jpg
look at the OMS pods front.

When I built the equipment I based it off a centerline of 0 x

Sure I can center the mesh. But not sure which side is correct.

NEP7YYh.jpg

The SF mesh seems to be that way also.
Kh8Q001.jpg

So regarding the aft monitors. the 2 seem NOT to be mfds but Camera displays?

So I looked at this model.
https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/shuttle-hi-res

I scaled it to match what we have.
bjc0W15.jpg

So a couple of questions. IN the model at top the front of the payload bay slopes. the one on the bottom is straight. so which is correct? Also the tail seem it doesn't have a notch.
GfBXoGC.jpg

the ODS pods seem smaller also.

So here is the meshes next to the drawing. So look at the tail. the hi res mesh seem correct. Not sure though about the slant of the payload bay.

The ODs pods seem good.

So what if we use the hi res model and re-texture. May need cut animation parts

So on the KU band that is the old Atlantis one. I have upgraded to the SSU one.

So redo the VC using SSU textures?
Funny they don't have those black rings around the windows.

Not sure if I can use the SSU VC and make it simple. They have lots of switches,.......

So on the exterior mesh I am not sure if the front where the payload bay doors are is square or slants back slightly?

EGsTqMF.jpg

I like the hi res model. I think the ODS pods are the correct size. Might pick and choose parts. Make the model symmetrical,

I am suspicious to speak because I really like the textures of SSU.
But yes, it would be quite interesting.

Btw the "STSVC02" im using and that is in the photos is from STSPAYLOADS 2.1
It comes in the textures2 folder. :thumbup:

Yes, I was talking about those OMS gaps (yellow outline).
I think that payload bay forward slope(wall), which is crew cabin's aft wall at the same time, is vertical.

Yes, that is funny that SSU VC does not feature black frames around aft windows, because they definitely were.
But SSU payload bay is a bit sterile, Atlantis bay is more photorealistic. But the thing, which is definitely better, is radiator texture, I replaced a while ago that portion of AtlantisSTSbay.dds, with SSU texture (silvery grey), and also made it shiny - a bit matte reflective (in D3D9 debugger). Looks very real.

So The forward part of the payload bay should NOT slope but be vertical?

So that the mesh will be symmetrical I think the whole thing may need to redone. I like the hi res for the exterior.

Can you send me you new radiator texture?

Thanks. This is SSU 2010 aft windows do have the black ring:

I think the SSU VC looks cleaner. Any thought on the exterior model.

If gaps are fixed, current exterior model mostly is quite OK.
P.S. in these VC pictures aft windows are great! But upper window(s) are a bit odd (pixelated lines - "frames"), at least in the first pic (just a portion of it can be seen).

Ok.
So the gaps. On the ODS pods they look too big.
The issue making the external mesh symmetrical is the VC will need to be adjusted also. I have the wrong tail for original Columbia

Yes OMS
So fixing payload door issues.
7juBQYA.jpg

fixed the tail but sts 1 didn't have that extra part on the OMS
a0ZnCYe.jpg

so on the vc and using SSu textures. It isn't easy as changing textures. The SSU VC has lots of panels and switches,....

So something been thinking about, The early shuttle had a different cockpit. Only 3 mfds. So this is what I have now.
e75guoy.jpg

so new mfd plates.
1Il4652.jpg

may not have every screw,..... But the gauges would be static. But what would need to be done is cut the mesh and align the gauges.

So I redid it.
eZO3vIu.jpg

But got questions. On the front mfd the only control seems to be brightness. So No on/off button on the mfd? There is a DE DEU marking on them.

Going to keep the aft mfd as is. Or should it match the front?. Had to strench the mfd a bit to allow the mfd to work

---------- Post added 12-25-19 at 08:01 AM ---------- Previous post was 12-24-19 at 08:10 AM ----------

So the on/off for the CRT are on the center panel. So I might be able to do that. Maybe even animate the switch. But may need to use the sel button as the newwer mfds.

So I found out there was NO aft CRT along the aft wall. Just a ADI. There was one on the R11U panel. So if we wanted an active one there I can put it there?
DvdMiF9.jpg

But I would need to make a panel

this is from SSU 2010:

Any thoughts?
