Search Ships that fit inside the cargo bay of a space shuttle

Maybe it's not a shuttle but soyuz will fit surelly :P

A few early Orion/EAS designs would also fit great into the Shuttle.

Yo dawg, I heard you like space shuttles:

This'll fit inside the shuttles bay -> [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1489"]HL-20 PLS/CERV v1.01[/ame] as will this -> [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=5197"]ISS Evacuation Shuttle UPDATE[/ame]

It's also fun to launch it from under the whiteknight and fly it around a bit

The first thing I notice is that I have both the big Lego shuttle and the Matchbox one on its back (and on top of that the vertical stabiliser is missing on mine too!) :blink:

X-37 would be a pretty tight fit!

A Shuttle-PB ? :)

More than one, actually...

The Soyuz-in-Shuttle idea is interesting. There was maybe a possibility of partnership there. Soyuz could have been packed into the Shuttle, then sent back in Russia via an Antonov and refurbished for another flight. :hmm:

Found that most of the Mir and Russian ISS segments fit nicely into the shuttle bay.

Another idea based around this theme:

A series of mishaps on Soyuz TM-5 nearly resulted in a separation of the reentry capsule without a deorbit burn having been performed, which would have meant certain death for the crew.

Fortunately this was averted, however in a similar scenario, a rescue shuttle could launch, rendezvous, and retrieve the capsule.

But couldn't the solid rocket boosters on the Soyuz for the final descent slow the capsule down, so that it would re-enter the atmosphere, and then eventually land a little bit harder than normal with its parachutes?

Thats a misconception. The small solid rocket boosters provide just about 5 m/s velocity change. Out of 7500 that you would need.

Last time I checked the PAO didn't have that kind of [math]\Delta_{v}[/math] either. Not more than a twentieth of it. :lol:

If you wan't shuttles inside of shuttles, try stuffing some PBs or something into the cargo bay of the XR-5. You can fit quite a few!

Actually I only have four in there but I bet you could fit more on the second level of the bay.
