News RIP Alan Simpson

Probably not known outside the UK. he was a comedy writer. Did a lot of work with his partner Ray Galton.

Classic stuff from the 1950's onward. Some of his best was on Tony Hancock and Steptoe and Son.

One a melancholic loner, the other, looking after his grumpy parent. I emphasise with both, but I didn't know it at the time.

Maybe some reference to the present... the currently abundantly successful singer Rag'n'Bone Man ("Human") has named himself after figures from "Steptoe and Son".

Maybe Alan Simpson was a purely british phenomena, but he seems to have lasting impact on this tiny island.

Galton and Simpson wrote a lot of comedy for radio and tv, but I think Steptoe and Son were among their best.

Its comedy of its age, but still makes me chuckle.
