Hi There
I had a go at re-entry in the Deltaglider Mk4 today.
I made it into atmospheric flight without any problems.
But I eventually completely lost control!

I set the Autopilot to my intended bearing, it made a nice long slow bank around to the heading but then went to far, corrected, went to far, corrected this went on for a while so I shut it of and tried to get on my bearing manually but the glider for some reason would not stop banking, even when I was close, or on the other side of the heading it banked to starboard for no reason?

Is there something I'm missing? I might just fly manually in future!

I set the Autopilot to my intended bearing,...

There you already lost me. The Mk 4 has no such feature. The Mk4 only has the standard orbiter autopilot modes. No way to set a bearing and no reentry autopilot.

Maybe it's the Deltaglider IV add-on, not the default Deltaglider?

Still no bearing AFAIR. Also he could have written the correct add-on name then.

Sorry for the confusion.
Its the standard DG in the the scenario, Deltaglider MK4 in orbit. I've been using the scenario to practice re-entry

If it's the stock Delta Glider, then what MFD / plug-in are you using for the autopilot functions you are writing about?

Probably stall?

And what do you mean by "Went too far" and "Was too close"?

From DGIV html documentation:

Autopilot Atmospheric flight
The Atmospheric flight autopilot is very useful on Earth for long atmospheric flights, assisting in base returns, or for the final phases of reentry. The autopilot controls the ship with elevon and can be run on the ground to take-off automatically or in flight to hold current flight values
......
Run PRO110SPEC0 OR simply press ALT+5 (Atmospheric autopilot has been programmed to this default shortcut key). Watch the DGIV smoothly take off. In flight, you can control the altitude hold, speed setting, or heading.

But it still doesn't change the fact that it isn't DGIV which is used in the scenario, but the stock Delta Glider Mk.4 from the Orbiter base package. :P

Both stock DG Mk4 and DG-S have atmospheric autopilot folks.

I was actually starting to doubt if I was actually using autopilot for a minute! ^^ thats the one.
I suppose its not really important since I can easily set speed and alt, and control the bearing myself.
What Basically happened was, when I set a bearing it turned to it, but then started banking all over the place. When I switched the AP off again the ship was banked over to starboard almost 90 degrees and I couldn't get it back to level again.

are you sure none of default autopilots are working at the same time? - like pro grade, retrograde etc? I'm not sure if AAP and default ones can be engaged at the same time but maybe that's the issue

Bingo!
Post your observations there then (if it is not considered necroposting...)
