There was some talk a couple of years ago about modifying it to CATOBAR, but since it would have been necessary to basically rebuild the entire ship, it was decided to stick with the ski-jump (and thus the F-35B instead of the C variant).

Yeah... but with the new electromagnetic catapults, the price of CATOBAR dropped a lot. Its likely that it could get deployed for even smaller carriers now.

BTW... The German music rights management GEMA and Youtube have settled their conflict ... finally no "This video is not available in your country" and proxy seeking.

Not entirely true, During early construction it was going to be a CATOBAR but different governments switched from STOVL (design) to CATOBAR (early construction) back to STOVL (mid to late construction), one of the many reasons its over budget.

All I know about GEMA is that the guy that types in song titles is a complete jerk.

The world is about to come to an end. At least in Dwarf Fortress. My Dwarves just elected an Elf as mayor.

Just got in from watching Dr. Strange with the kiddo. Pretty decent, some of the effects are - - - trippy?

Of to the course now. You guys know there's a golf course in the here?

Gave the first episode of The Crown a watch tonight. Not sure if it's up my alley, but it's certainly interesting.

Can somebody tell me why Dwarf Fortress did not save last night, despite claiming so?

Looks like an Elven mayor was too much for it as well, now I am back to the status quo...

Guess who's sitting outside with his laptop due to a false fire alarm which cannot be shut down.

The best part is how the alarm didn't show up at the campus' central, which means that if the fire had been real (with it being a propulsion lab and all) the response time would have been a bit long.

Sure it was a false alert and not some "Lets test something loud and annoy everybody" action by the facility management klingons?

I remember the face of the master of the workshop in the basement of my former institute, when he discovered those Klingons attempting to install a smoke detector over a milling machine... I had never seen them run so fast.

It turned out to have been caused by some overly enthusiastic use of an angle-grinder in the attached building belonging to another lab, still under construction. But it finally stopped, which is nice!
