Black cats are good luck. I say this as a former owner of a black cat.

Picking a fight with a black cat can be bad luck. I say that as a former owner of a black cat as well.

As a half-German, half-Italian, I just hope it won't end in penalties.

Now we'll see if car horns are quicker than the sat tv signal.

No, it is not. But digital cable TV is only 2 seconds faster than the fireworks here.

I need either a shower or I need to go for a run in the dark, I am absolutely drained now.

That was absolutely crazy! Thank :probe: I don't give a :censored: about football.

Even with one extra go, you can't beat Germans on penalties.

It could be.
One time there was a 30 second delay vs aerial, during F1 race.
Got to pull some "magic tricks" of slamming race cars into the walls. :)

Don't mention the curse. We have spent the past week removing all black cats, ladders and mirrors from the German team.

But Müller has to be considered cursed... one of the best shots of the game defended by the best defensive acrobatics of the game.

You can borrow this. We don't need it anymore.

Having a discussion about the "Sword in the Stone" and Excalibur. The way I read it years ago, these were two separate swords. For some reason Arthur didn't have his sword and needed one quick, Merlin took him down to a lake where he got Excalibur from the Lady.
I think he's hung up on the Disney version?

How do you guys remember the story?

The version of the Arthurian legend I grew up with is the movie Excalibur, where apparently every man yells all his lines all the time and it sounds awesome.

That was one epic movie. One of the only movies I know where mythology has been made to feel like mythology, with all the logical flaws and weirdness that brings with it. And oh, the armor... certainly not the propper armor for the period, but the best plate armor you'll see in any movie ever. And it even worked properly!

Never actually saw that one, but in all versions I know, Excalibur is the sword in the stone.

Wasn't the sword initially given to Pendragon?

Now that I'm not at work I can do a little digging.

Seems like it depends on when the story was written (before or after the Romans arrived). The Welsh story (stories), Tomas Malory and T. H. White all seem to be on the same general track, but differ in the minutia. I've got to dig around in my library and find it, because le morte d'arthur is an excellent read. I'm 50% though Seven Against Thebes (as written, not a translation) and when I get through Antigone I'm going to need something that doesn't require a lot of brain cells. Although I must admit my reading skills are growing, I can read it much better now, but I don't think I'll ever be able to pronounce much of it correctly (the East Tennessee accent doesn't help any I'm sure).

If you celebrate American independence in a Scottish Estuary, is that the Firth of Fourth of July?

The first rats to leave the sinking ship are the best swimmers...

Happy Aphelion Day to all! :P
