Am I the only spaceflight and astronomy fan out there who has never watched any of the Star Wars AND Star Trek movies? :uhh:

While I probably won't have time to do so soon, in what sequence would you recommend me to watch the two series?

Star Wars: Doesn't really matter that much. Watch the prequels if you think you have to, watch episodes 3 through 6 in sequence.

Star Trek: If you skip all odd-numbered movies, you don't miss a lot. There's not much of an ongoing storyline between movies anyways.
If you really want to watch all of them, 2, 3, and 4 are directly connected, but don't really need each other to exist. You should really skip 5 unless you have some compulsion not to. 6 is completely unconnected and a pretty good movie.

The Abrams Star Trek movies are pretty good though, I recommend them both.

Hardly a problem, Windows NT and Windows 2000 had been rock-solid operating systems, especially in the hands of a skilled administrator.

Star Wars: watch them in the following order: 4, 5, 2, 3, 6, 7.
Star Trek: you'll want to watch some of the iconic episodes first... "Trouble with Tribbles", " Amok Time", "City on the Edge of Forever", etc. Then 2, 3, 4, then TNG/DS9.

They removed all the 1960s-bloat from the series and gave it a story. Also, canonical in the context of TOS? The only time there was such a thing like canon, had been the middle episodes of TNG.

I NEVER have to ask myself the question, if I like Kirk or if I like Picard. Picard is the only one who is capable of commanding more than a lifeboat.

How much of a difference does it make that old OS like that are not officially supported by Microsoft anymore? It sounds like most businesses using server 2003 are upgrading old infrastructure to at least server 2008, but cases like this one almost never get upgraded.

Depends - if you are operating the system without connection to the outside, to the internet, it doesn't matter if the OS is 15 or 45 years old. It will work just like on the day you last patched it.

If you have connection to the internet, it still depends on what you do with it. Windows NT 4.0 for example can be made rock-solid by deactivating services and defining OS policies. It is nothing you can use for browsing the internet then, but it works, for example if you have a classic windows service operating there as only "vulnerable" connection to the outside.

Practically, only the first scenario is really safe. If you for example did not upgrade your webserver over the past years, you will notice that Even SSL 3.0 is highly unsafe... There is a reason why everything below TLS 1.1 is banned since 2015, especially for downgrades.

But, in all honesty, what good does watching 1 do? It doesn't do more than add confusion.

It's known as the "machete order."

(If for some reason you've never ever watched Star Wars or heard anything about the major plot twists, don't click the link. To clarify, Episode V contains a major plot twist for those who are completely new, Episode II and III provide a flashback. The author of the article argues that Episode I is bad enough to be skipped.)

I thought ep. 1 was the best Star Wars movie, at the time. Because someone finally made a Star Wars movie.
You see, the only thing called Star Wars that i knew of was the V tv series (reptilians in human skins stealing water from earth), which in Russia was called "Star Wars 2000".

I was aware of many concepts, like lightsabers and xwing vs tie fighters, but it was kind of a genre thing, what they call Space Opera these days.
So imagine what watching a coherent movie with all that in it was like.

I never quite figured out how to hate it - it's a meh movie in context, but it isn't bad on it's own.

Episodes I, II, and III, have not truly been made yet. Those forgeries people are discussing were just bad fan fic made by George Lucas, who was working without the guidance of his team from the 70s. If you do watch them, watch them only after seeing the original trilogy, as they give away major spoilers.

Star Trek: 1, 2, and maybe 3 and 6. 5 was awful, 4 was cute but not to be taken seriously. The Next Generation films are okay.

The latest films, made by JJ Abrams are horrible caricatures of Star Trek, watching them is like watching a Trek parody skit on Saturday Night Live or something. If you liked ST4 you might like them, though.

THANK YOU. Someone put it into better words than I did. And after the latest trailer for ST:Beyond, I'm even more convinced of this point.

Well, for the plus side of the rerelease in '97, all they did was add in a digital Jabba the Hut in IV, put CGI ships into a few scenes, and generally cleaned up the effects. No significant changes, but they did add some new creatures to Jabba's palace in VI that really didn't need to be added.
Downside is the singer in Jabba's palace... and I think that's about it. That's before they added new Anakin in the final scene of VI, by the way.

Actually, I have DVD copies of the special editions, and they have as a bonus feature the original theatrical versions of the films. Unfortunately, they are not super high quality copies, but at least they show the story in its original form.

The worst thing is that we all know HAN SHOT FIRST, LUCAS!

Honestly, I don't hate all the stuff Lucas did to the original trilogy, some of the enhancements were cool and tasteful. But that one scene changes Han Solo's character.

If Lucas had just released the original versions on Blu-ray along with the special versions I think the fans would've been cool with it.
