From Linguofreak above

As a public statement from embassy staff, however, it's potentially quite inflammatory. I don't find it offensive myself, but it's a horribly stupid thing to do if you work in an embassy, and you don't have any business working in an embassy if you don't know that.

Inflammatory! Yes, that's the problem:P

Arson is no laughing matter, General Ross got his come-uppance:

An American sharpshooter shot him through the right arm into the chest. According to Baltimore tradition, two American riflemen, Daniel Wells, 18, and Henry McComas, 19, were credited with the shot. Ross died while being transported back to the fleet.

Incredible, they both shot him at the same time?

N.

One was a spotter, and the other was the shooter?

You don't truly appreciate how thin modern tablet PCs are until you try to fit a custom part inside one...

I'm atill completely baffled how my tablet pc is capable of running all conceivable everyday tasks without a hitch with most of its internal volume taken up by the battery. Silently most of the time.

Same here... my old first generation Surface survives 10 hours using Word for taking lecture notes. Without any complaints or noise.

It could be interpreted as "Remember when we killed a bunch of you and did a ton of property damage? Let's do that again!".

I think the much more scary part is "Remember the last time we, a foreign power, took part of your homeland including your capital?"

I mean I'm not American but that seems like a thing nobody would want to happen to their country.

I see what you mean and that is indeed very impressive, but being the Surface an ARM system like other tablets it's "sort of expected".
I'm mainly impressed by the advances of the x86 platform in power efficiency :using a tablet with a low-power dual core i3, I get more or less 6 hours of regular usage out of the tablet alone, plus 3 more with the docked keyboard, which has another battery.

All this while retaining at least some sort of backwards compatibility to 30-year-old applications. :P

US Black Hawk helicopters in fire-drill foam accident

A number of Black Hawk helicopters were left covered in foam after a fire drill went wrong at a US military base in Oklahoma.

The fire alarm system in an aircraft hangar was being tested when fire suppression equipment was triggered - filling the structure with foam and almost burying the nearby helicopters.

No injuries have been reported.

That looks like a nasty clean up.

My new car has now its VIN (in the customer web portal of the manufacturer)... final assembly and delivery are approaching.

Yeah but will the delievery guy knock on your door and run away, saying you weren't home at the time of delievery?

Well, I am going for the full package there... since it is my first car fresh from the factory in my life, I decided to fetch it from the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autostadt"]Autostadt[/ame].

New computer specs:

AMD FX-4300 4-core processor at 3.8GHz
8GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7950 at 900MHz
3GB Video RAM
1TB hard disk

... all hooked up to a 24" monitor at 1920x1280.

I just saved up for a long time. And on top of that, I bought an underpowered PSU. I can't run any GPU-intensive game for more than a few minutes without the whole system switching off without warning.

What PSU have you bought?

Built it yourself? (Good on you if so). Calculating the current draw to select your PSU with everything maxed out is not the end of the world, but there are always pages like these if you don't want to go through that bother. GL!

Cute... some criticism from my side there:

More RAM - 8 GB is enough, but not really much today and RAM modules are pretty inexpensive for the performance gains that they bring.

SSD - even a small one is a huge performance multiplier. Yes, it is rather expensive per GB, but more than worth the money. Also you rarely need more than 120 GB, if your system is properly installed.

In the worst case, we are speaking here about a 200 € plus in price for a 1000 € machine. But 200 € which really bring more than the high clock rates for the CPU, since most of its power gets limited by memory, I/O and two cores out of four are usually idle as well, unless you use expensive specialist software... I don't know many games that make effective use of multi-cores.
