Amusing thing I forgot to post earlier

How disappointing it would be to drown after surviving reentry in the equivalent of a tin can

Note: Forgot to include the caption. It reads Straighten up and Fly Right! ;)

A pizza printer.

Talk about entropy.

My PC just hit 86°C with the new power supply, so i'm just leaving a part of its side open. Now all i need is a fan....

You need a fan and the side closed ASAP... letting a PC run with open sides helps cooling the CPU, but heats the remaining components badly (since the CPU fan pulls less air over these components) and accelerates failures.

I think there's two reasons why my PC keeps freezing, one is - either its a problem about heat (PC freezes often at around 59°C), or Windows is corrupted and i have to reinstall, although, after opening the sides, it freezes less often...And what remaining components?

59°C CPU temperature is pretty high, but not dramatically. You should monitor the other components there, especially pay attention that "south" from the CPU (north is the PSU) are no cables.

If you get 86°C by just switching power supply, the power supply is likely a very bad choice and non-standard. In ATX form, the power supply has the task to suck in warm air from inside the case and blow it outside.

After all, the power consumption of the PC didn't change and the components below the PSU did not consume more power and turn more power into heat. 25°C more heat that way is an extreme failure.

Mine usually hovers around 55-80, unless I'm playing a game. Then it jumps to 85-95C.

What about the GPU?
In my case ATI have failed to make a proper auto fan control on the video card (apparently, silence>>intact GPU), so once i start playing something non-trivial, it quickly gets to 80C+, and freezes.
Have to manually set the fan to full throttle to avoid that, which i sometimes forget. :(

The usual working CPU temperature actually depends on the CPU model. You can't really compare "good" working temperatures of CPUs using different technology, package, or even having different number of cores (in the same package and same technology).

For example the highest (core) temperature I saw on my E6600 was 65°C, and the highest temperature I saw on my Q6700 was 79°C, with ~45°C for E6600 and ~60°C for Q6700 under normal load, and 35°C / 45°C when idle.

About GPU, I haven't logged temperatures continuously, but I know that idle for my GTX 285 is 38-50°C depending on the fan speed, and ~75-78°C when testing some GPU benchmark.

Mine is an AMD CPU, with Radeon built-in GFX. I'm surprised I haven't started a fire. It does have a utility (maybe this is on the part of HP)that is an auto-throttling fan.

So anyways Im sitting here on my lunchbreak when I usually study C++, but Im so distracted right now that I cant really focus on it, so I figured Id write about what happens to be on my mind.

A day or 2 ago I had finished my shift at my new job, and was waiting to sign out so I could go home. While I was waiting I happened to look across the counter and saw a girl that I had known from school. We talked for a bit, exchanged the usual stories about what was going on in our lives. At the end of the conversation my heart was quite literally pounding, just from seeing her!

Ive known this girl since about grade 7, and have always had a big crush on her for a variety of reasons. We have great conversations about history, politics, whatever and she also likes physics and programming a bit, making interest in Orbiter maybe more than a slight possibility. Have I mentioned this may be the most beautiful girl I have ever seen? Her personality is so friendly & easy to talk to, just amazing compared to most people I meet.

But the downside is that Im scared to death to do anything, and I can never really tell if a girl likes me or not. ( I have ADHD and some mild symptoms of autism, chiefly an inability to follow cues in social situations. Because of this I have actually had other guys inform me that a girl was really interested in me after the conversation) I honestly have no idea what to do if I talk to her again, but I suspect that some of our interests may be similar.

So I figured I wanted to get that stuff off my mind, in order to start thinking about Orbiter again; the whole thing is driving me crazy. I just cant understand why it gets to me so much, when I really never got that far with her.

So what do you think?

You have to challenge your fears, or your fears will always challenge you.

Of course, this does not mean: Jump into her face and kiss her. Simply start at the small fears and erode the big ones that way.

After all, what do you have to lose? If you really have a crush on her, you have a small chance that you can lose her by exceeding your social competence and looking like a jerk. But you will lose her always by not opening your mouth.

"Fortune favors the bold"

OK, granted that it didn't do much for Pliny the Elder, but the idea is still sound. You are guaranteed no results if you do nothing.

If you are going to see her on a regular basis because of work, this is going to be complicated in any way... You'll have no regrets if you say it.

Guys, every 3 months or so, you open the box, you wrap a cloth around your nose/mouth, you take a hair dryer (switch cold mode on), and you blast away that !$(%§ of computer mud !!! Blast in the fans and in the smallest corners, it's where it lives !

Ready the hoover, because there's going to be packets of that grey sh.. everywhere.

A clogged GPU fan can cause you lots of troubles, so preemptive strikes like that keep you save. And radiators are most efficient when they are clean. Dust acts as a cover.

Some years ago, I had a thing for this gorgeous, leggy Christian girl at college. So I chatted her up, and we became good friends. And then one night, while we were talking on the phone, she said something to the effect that we needed to talk. Uh-oh, I thought, The game's up. And it was. She very gently turned me down. We remained friends, though I haven't seen or heard from her in quite some time.

Rejection isn't fun, but take it from a frequent victim:P, it isn't as painful as some people think. Whether she wants you or not, it's best to know, and know soon;)

Well scenario A is defintely never happening .

So what do you think should I say to her when I see her? (A rough outline, not a speech )

Thanks for the honest opinion, even if it is less fun. Painfil advice usually is best I guess...
