Given maybe 2 or 3 more years & another Orbiter release, I think we are going to see an explosion in popularity thatll make KSP look like nothing. Its just going to be a matter of the right time & the right visibility.

I really doubt that. Sorry to say, but Orbiter simply doesn't have enough going for it to really get to a mainstream audience. Most people would find it too complex. Others might be turned off by the lack of collision detection, 3D terrain, and animations for UMMUs. In spite of that however, it is an amazing simulator in all of its capabilities for any spaceflight enthusiast. I still doubt it will have an explosion of popularity at a new release though.

Well anyone on this forum is obviously already slightly crazy, so Im sure it doesnt sound that ridiculous . I doubt a new orbiter release will bring on the masses too, but the work done in the D3D9 & D3D11 clients is pretty eye-popping stuff for a free program. I just figure with some work the community can probably grow to about 1 or 2 thousand regular members. Although Ive rather enjoyed working on my first addon vessel, Ive come to realize that what I really like doing is being an info/PR guy. So, with overhauling the wiki, getting a few links to our sites at the right places, and maybe even wheedling a mention out of NASA, I think orbiters popularity could really see some healthy growth. The issue with orbiter & its popularity really isnt lack of addons, bells, or whistles, its mostly just that its hard to find(stumble over) on the web. Remember: :hailprobe:

A few other things need to happen as well, but I like the general idea in your post. Orbiter and the community does have plenty of room to grow, granted it is given a condusive environment for it to do so.

Aggggh, I bought KSP. :P Something I should have done either when it was cheaper, or later when I have a decent PC. I just couldn't resist. ;)

KSP is just so....ehh

Everytime I play the thing I just end up quitting and booting up Orbiter instead.

Or SSMS.
KSP have somewhere to go to.
TERRAINS, landable terrains!
That's what it have over Orbiter.

And the way you make your own ships.

KSP's graphics are meh even compared to inline client, the orbital physics are inferior, but the appeal of it is in the creative effort and in the terrains.

So, from the light realm of The Probe i venture forward into the dark realm of Deep Space Cthulhu. :)

From the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant...

Meh... Today most work inside containment is being shut down due to a Containment Intergrated Leak Rate Test (CILRT). During this test, containment is pressurized to 15 psi and a team of people search for leaks using various detection methods (instumentation, FLIR, etc).

Things are slow but looking better. There are many mode restrictions in the way of us getting to mode 4 (some of these are mine, they can'd do any time-response testing on the turbine and feed pump valves until I give them said turbines). Most of these are held u[p by one hold-order or another (hold order=tag out program/LOTO/Red Tag/whatevs).

I almost have one feed pump for them, the other had an impeller replaced, so we are still working oil flushes (maybe 2 or 3 more). But no main turbine until I get the EHC system back (Electro-Hydraulic Controls).

And... Today is day 31 of a 30 day "planned" outage. Looks like the 19th or 20th we could be in power ascension, but a lot of things still have to go "right".

I often wonder just how inept a manager has to be until they get replaced?

Never, see: Dilbert principle.

They are promoted to management, so they are not causing any damage while you do the work.

Hm... I was hoping to get an apartment after this year of being required to live in a dorm.
But it appears that the good apartments (e.g. locations where I won't be killed by disease or drug dealers or pit bulls) require 12 months rental history, 12 months employment, good income, and good credit. I will have no rental history outside of dorms, not quite 12 months employment, a likely small monthly income because I don't NEED a high income because I have very significant scholarships, and no credit to think of. And I'm not sure if a co-signer will offset all of that. Blah.

I need a bigger turbo...

Why give up because of that? Of course students are considered either the ruin of the appartment or the best way to make lots of money by making them pay for a cardboard box. But if you have securities like scholarships? After all... 12 months of rental history are only possible after renting something. It can't be mandatory.

Heh, in Bosnia teachers often need 12 months of work expierience before their first employment. You can get that expierience by working as a volunteer for 12 months... :shifty:

Same in Germany - you can't pass your exam without such mandatory volunteering, and because of German stupidity, this mandatory volunteering is the first time you meet children after years of theoretical education.

BTW, the peace nobel prize of 2012 goes to the European Union. Not that it is really undeserved...

And if so I demmand my share of it: 0.238 cents

That is unfair, I had been in the EU for much longer time than you, I should get at least 50% more than you.

From the Watts Bar NP. Outage day 32 of 30...

Containment leak rate test continues (it's a 24 hr test) so no work is going on inside the can.

We should be prepping to do the speed curve on main feed pump "A"; instead we are (by direction) calibrating a transmitter on the main turbine bearing oil pressure (indicate only, no alarms, and is not a mode restriction; which means we can really do it any time, vice the speed curve which is a mode restrictions...).

All I can say is... We'll do it their way and make more money...

In other news: Apple is paying the swiss railway company SBB license money... for using their famous train station clock design in iOS6.

Don't mess with Switzerland.

As long as they don't sue the SBB because their trains' wheels are round, just like the camera on Apple's smartphones...
