Farewell daylight saving time in Russia, the victim of some seriously undereducated brass-eared Twitter-posting hare-brainers...

Except that the Sun is at the local noon on winter time...
We're stuck on the wrong side, in the summer time.

FUTURAMA has some very correct Orbits, also Tintin, congratulations, they will both not be part of my collection...

Accidentally screwed up the serial console on an ancient desktop my Dad passed off to me, leaving myself unable to log in.

Managed to start sshd by blindly logging in with the keyboard (The monitor is being used by another computer at the moment), then ssh'ed in over an ethernet connection and fixed the inittab entry for the serial console (I generally connect the machine to my laptop via a serial connection because the old machine isn't attached to our main home network or the internet, and my laptop doesn't like having both a wireless and an ethernet connection active at the same time, so a serial connection allows the laptop to connect to both the old machine and the internet simultaneously, and I don't need stunning bandwidth between the two. Plus a serial connection gives a nostalgic feel).

ive been listening to green day all day:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang: their awsome

After some quality retrogaming, I beheld this terrifying boss monster in Super Metroid:

That is his skull, after I pushed him into a pit of magma, watched his flesh melt away only to have the skeleton JUMP OUT OF A WALL AT ME then collapse when I tried to leave the room. Cripes, this is scarier than modern horror games...

Wow... I wouldn't meet that one at night...

Speaking of retrogaming, I must confess I'm heavily addicted to Race Into Space. I just finished a game in which I've been quite lucky.

Settings : Level 1 for both sides, historical game, historical roster.

Alternate History :

The director rating graph, showing that the computer has been awfully unlucky :

It was an interesting game because while I won the early steps (orbital sat, man in space, docking, EVA, minishuttle), he successfully developped the Gemini program and beat me at Manned Lunar Pass & Manned Lunar Orbital, after my first Manned Lunar Pass attempt was delayed by an ignition problem with a Proton+upper stage rocket.

Looks like a cool game, thanks for the tip. My son is doing a history project on the space race and I'm sure he would love it as well.

Wow, so it's possible without cheating? Great game, I'll redownload it now... :download::download::download::download:

I REMEMBER HIM! Is that by chance 'Ridley' (or is it meta ridley)? Yeahhh....happy days of playing through those games with friends during lunch breaks (and latin lessons, IIRC), many eons ago (actually about 7 years, but meh). That and carting save game files between home and school via an unreliable email system

Can you see Venus move across the sky?
At the rate of 1 frame per day, each day at 8:00, it makes a nice curve across the not so cloudy sky. The sun sets then rises as the months fly by like seconds.
Making a time lapse at a month per second takes bloody ages, but is worth it.

It's not Ridley, he comes later in the game, and flies around and stuff. Same head though, but with more eyes. The manual calls this guy Crocomire.

Oh ok...I was close, though ;)

Which game in the series is that? Is it the one where Samus crash-lands her spaceship or something (and then has to fight w/o armour)?

Super Metroid for the SNES, played in ZNESW with ironically an XBox 360 controller.

It's Prime 2 on the gamecube that has the crashing space ship, although pretty much all of them have some disaster in the intro that magically removes all of your hard-earned powerups from the last game...
